Off the wagon.

Recommended Posts

Have any of you fell off the wagon in a holiday spiral? I think I gained about 2-3 pounds over the last 2-3 weeks. Started with my thanksgiving baking, then 2 turkey dinners, my birthday (which included plenty of empty calories) and period cravings :( I'm at the tail end so hopefully some of the gain is Water...

I have been back on good behaviour since yesterday and have a 5 week check up tmrw which will clearly not go well. I've lost 30 (well, I was). pounds since may 10th, and feel really proud of myself overall.... Just helps to hear others talk about what they overcome. :)

Yes, last Christmas I fell off the wagon big time for about week. I discovered homemade sugar Cookies are slider foods that week and I swear I grazed on a couple dozen. I also found myself grazing on a ton of other junk food. I had this "well it's Christmas" mentality.

Big mistake. When I got back on the scale a week later, I almost cried when I was up 7 pounds.

I immediately got back on track and strict with my diet that same day. I lost the weight again pretty quickly, less than 2 weeks.

The trick is to not let it spiral out of control. You realize now where you messed up so get back on track right now (not tomorrow, but right this minute) and just chalk it up to a learning experience.

You can do this :)

In my early Weight Watchers years, I always remember something one of the leaders said. Something along the lines of that a holiDAY does not have to become a holiMONTH or a holiYEAR. Really stuck with me.

PS: I've had a crappy eating weekend, and today wasn't the best. Glad I read this thread tonight. Overall calories weren't catastrophic, but WHAT and HOW I've been eating is just so far off my game. Tomorrow.......back to it!!

This was one the biggest reasons that I wanted to have my band surgery done and be all healed up by the holidays. I want to know my limits and not potentially harm myself by eating things I shouldn't or by overeating during the holidays. I know it's definitely going to be a challenge for me, but I know I can stick with it!

Fortunately for me, even if I wanted to, the band is there doing it's job...it is after all why I had surgery in the first place...to stop/prevent me from the bad habits I had that made me fat....

Holidays, Buffets, Weddings, cruises...it does not matter...the band is the band is the band.....

B52 you are one strong guy... I am not looking forward to the Holidays.. but I have made up my mind that it's only one day and I don't have to eat everything in sight... I cook Thanksgiving for my crowd.. usually 25 or so.. Everyone brings a dish to share and we do the main entre.. Turkey, dressing, giblet gravy. At Christmas we do a buffet .. so, I will probably taste a little of each dish but I feel confident that this year I will not overeat because my band is my reminder....I am hoping I can refrain from overeating and stay in my calorie range.. 1200 ...

whether its a holiday or a reg day....eating is eating....

nothing wrong with eating....its a good thing..but def

make good choices and use the bands guidance for eating too much...but def depend on yourself to not overeat your allotted amount..one (bad?) meal or two wont make you gain 10 pounds nor will eating one or two (good?) meals make you lose 10 pounds..its a process..

day in and day out eating...

dont set yourself out by citing (holiday eating)

you can control yourself....you already are by losing weight...GREAT GREAT job

Best wishes for the upcoming Halloween, and then Thanksgiving, in the USA. We all have struggles, but the band is helpful to keep us from really overdoing!

Hi everyone! Thanks for the wonderful support!!!!

Had my checkup and am down about a pound since my last check up 5 weeks ago. May not have been perfect BUT wasn't as bad as my brain was telling me it was lol. After I confessed to my nurse about falling off course, my nurse told me I could skip the weigh-in....but I wanted to be accountable for my poor choices and was happily surprised.

In the end, any loss is better than a gain! I'm tracking religiously again focusing on the next check up in 4 weeks.

Hang in there everyone :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
