I think going to see the nutritionist is what has helped. The doctors have nutritionists associated with them and she gave me so much information. She explained what to eat how to measure how to make changes.

Does your doc have the whole team approach? I would be happy to email u copies of all the info I got. Just private message me.

I got banded a week ago. Came home on full liquids and now moving to puréed. The worst thing for me has been headaches! Almost Migraine like. Anyone else?

I've lost 160 lbs... I lost 140 in just under 14 months... then just over the past year another 20 due to a medication I'm on.

I've found maintenance with band VERY easy... pre my new meds I was actually below goal. I got the band to help me with my portion control... it's the BEST TOOL EVER !!! When I was losing... yes I still had to "diet" but I was able to eat "normal" and I never felt like I was missing out on certain foods... except rice, apple skins and carbonated beverages.

Tom, Toronto

Banded July 6 06

Wt. Loss: 160 lbs

I was banded April 2009 and I've lost 100lbs. Most of my weight in the first 2 years, now I'm just maintaining losing a few pounds a year. I'm at my goal so I'm not worried about losing anymore, just working on maintaining.

If you do do see this as a life change, and focus on your new eating habits and exercise routine, you will not be successful. Speak to a nutritionist, or contact me and I can help you and show you what I did, and still do.

Missy... I just read the article by The Lap-band is NOT about Restriction- Dr. Simpson, that really seemed to answer some questions very well!

I read this over and over again to help get me prepared for banded life -- so much good information there! Good luck to you, Krissy, you are going to get there!

Hi there, did not mean to "like" the part about the headaches! Could this be detoxing or perhaps caffeine-related -- just a thought. Hope you feel better soon......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
