52 pounds. I couldn't be successful without the band. I was such a Yo-You dieter for way TOO long.

I'm at 68 lbs lost in 6 1/2 months. But I follow the rules damn near religiously and I also jog a few times a week.

To be honest, but not discouraging, ten pounds a year is not really on point at all, it should be more like one pound a week, not one pound a month. Maybe it's time to recommit to the program and go back into the surgeon and get refreshed on your nutritional counseling.

Good luck!

I've lost a lil more than 90 lbs in 10 months. I log everything I eat and keep my calories at ~1000/day. I walk 3-5 miles at least 3 times a week with my dogs. I'm going to start some weight lifting soon to tone.

It's great that you've lost weight but I do agree with the other post. It seems like you should have lost more. Perhaps it's time to go in and talk with your doctor?

How much do you want to lose? Set a goal and start working towards it. And it's perfectly fine if that goal is just 5 lbs. Sometimes if we look at the total amount that needs to be lost we can get overwhelmed. Smaller amounts can seem more manageable. For me, it was the first 30 lbs, then to reach 199. Now I have my sights set on 175. Then I just want to be "overweight" and not obese by BMI charts. And then I hope to reach a healthy BMI. I knew this was going to be a long journey. For me I fully expect it to take almost two years.

I'm frustrated too. I was banded 8/2/13 and have not lost anything more than when I went in... I have only had one fill... I do good all day, then when I get home I am starving... I can eat whatever, except for chicken or meat get stuck.. I have a friend that started an Atkins diet in Aug and has lost 50 lbs - I feel like a fool that this is not working for me.. Hoping that my next fill will do something for me. My Dr. Grossbard did the surgery... I asked him and his office for a diet plan... he responded anything except fat... and I asked how much Protein or sugar.. he just repeated himself... I was so ticked off - I felt like he's there for the $. Not sure, but I am going to go back for my next fill and if no success... try another dr!!!! I am feeling disappointed, big time!

If I were you, I'd go see a nutritionist and let them help you establish both a calorie range and a diet that works for you. It would really help a lot.

Missy... I am wondering what your daily eating schedule looks like. I am impressed with your accomplishment! Also, what is your exercise regimend? Do you count calories, or Proteins, or anything special that helps you? I will do whatever it takes, but I don't seem to be getting any good information. I know I need exercise, but I am just so tired after chasing 21 2nd graders around all day lol

Thanks!

I do count calories, in fact I do so religiously and have since the day I got home from the hospital.

I eat between 1000-1200 calories a day

I never eat more than 1 cup of food per meal

I don't restrict carbs

I eat at least 60g of Protein daily (protein should be your weight times .3)

My main exercise is walking (I'm limited what I can do due to other health issues)

That's all I do- which isn't complicated at all. While I don't count or limit carbs, I do try to make the carbs I do eat healthier ones. I try to stay away from any "white" or "enriched" carbs. I stick to whole grain bread, whole wheat Pasta, brown rice, and potatoes.

My diet looks just like Missy's diet. With my lower BMI I am loosing 1-4 lbs a month and I am okay with that, slow and steady wins the race.

The misconception is that the band IS the diet. Unlike the other surgeries, you still have to do the bulk of the work yourself, you should just be less hungry and feel "satisfied" on less food.< /p>

You are totally right on all counts. Especially the slower losing with lower BMI. When I started, my BMI was a whopping 72 and I could easily lose 20-30 pounds a month. Now that I've lost a lot and my BMI is lower, I'm lucky to lose 4 pounds a month (lately less). But like you, I'm totally fine with that. As long as the scale isn't going up, I'm happy.

I guess I thought I'd loose more than the one pound since 8/2 LOL I actually gained weight after I got out of surgery because they had to fill me w/ so many fluids... my blood sugar dropped in the 40s... but I am ready to get back w/ the program. I am hoping that one cup of food will fill me up... I can eat a cup, then still feel very hungry... I feel like there isn't even a band on .... except when I have tried meat. Does anyone know how many cc's the dr. filled them with to get to your happy point? I have only gotten 3 cc's about a month ago. I really appreciate all of your support!!!!

Missy... I just read the article by The Lap-band is NOT about Restriction- Dr. Simpson, that really seemed to answer some questions very well!

I was banded July, 2012 and have had I think 4 fills for a total of 2.2 or 2.4. My doctor goes slow. He likes me at the weight I am and said if I stay where I am he would be thrilled. Have your measurements changed at all? I know my sizes go down. I try to get to the gym 4-5 times a week. I do what I can and don't kill myself, but it beats being over weight and sitting on my old fat ass all day.

I had a fill 2 weeks ago, very tiny and it did make a big difference.

Good luck.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
