I have been able to lose weight on my own. But I don't see me being able to get where I should weigh. Those people i have talked to, says I can lose what I need to without surgery. I disagree. That is why I saw a Weight Loss Surgeon. I wish they knew how chubby feels like, I do.

i used to be able to lose weight easily. of course i would gain it right back and more. but when i became diabetic and on insulin no diet plan in the world was helping lose weight. i opted for weight loss surgery when i decided enough was enough and didnt want to lose weight and gain it back. i am older and losing weight was a nightmare. you know you better than anyone else does and they don't live inside your head or body. it's a personal decision.

It sounds like you made a healthy choice for you. I am so happy for you. We have our own challenges to deal with. I wanted a support system for me when no one around me is being supportive. I am grateful I found this site. Weight Loss Surgery going to be alot of hard work, but I think it will be worth it when I go look at myself down the road. :)

Good for you trying to or getting the help you need. I would think that 95% or more of the people that have WLS can lose weight just fine. They just can't keep it off and they all needed the extra help of the most wonderful tool in the world called, The Band!

I know the band keeps me in place. I am eating much less and much healthier foods than ever. I even enjoy the gym now. I think I am a lot older than you and wish that there was something like this when I was in my 30's, not 60's. My health is much better, too.

I could lose and then it would come right back. I would put myself on low calorie diets and I would be starving all the time. Then I couldn't take it - then there was binging which just made the whole thing go out the window! The lapband helped me stay satisfied and I'm not starving all the time. I was 242 when I started this - now I'm 218. I know for a fact that I would just have been heavier had I not done this surgery. I wish you the best!

I have lost weight on my own several times. In fact I was a new member of weight watchers about twenty times between 13 years old and 34 when I started my LB process. I got the band and 35 and it changed my life. I wish I had the balls to do it much, much sooner. No body but you knows how you feel and no body but you knows what is right for you. I had several trusted supportive family members who did NOT want me to get the band. I know they were just concerned for me and my safety but now that I'm more alive than I ever have been I have proven that I made the right choice.

Good luck =)

I suck at dieting...have tried every diet under the sun, including Rx drugs...for 30 years...every diet started out well, then I slowly back-slided, then failed completely, gaining all the weight back, if not more........even my 6 month Dr. supervised pre-op diet, I failed at...started out good, then slowly turned in the other direction, then started to fail and gain weight back....I thought I was going to be denied the surgery because of this but I found out that is EXACTLY what the insurance co. wanted to see....that I could not do it on my own and surgery was the only, and perhaps last, alternative....of course they can't tell you that before you start the diet....otherwise no one would be sincere in trying....

Coming up on 3 years...the band has performed splendidly,...controlling all my hunger and cravings, and determining my portion sizes for me....nothing else I could, or have to do other than enjoy good healthy, nutritious foods for when I do eat....EASY...no calorie counting, measuring or weighing portions, NOTHING like being on a diet...the first 6 months were Hell, but now it's a new lifestyle...and along with a new lifestyle my body began to adjust, and return to a what it considered a normal weight...not my goal, but what and where I am supposed to be....

Also with a new lifestyle, don't have to think about what I'm doing, don't have to remind myself everyday about any "Rules"....they are all part of me, and they all happen naturally because that is what have I become, that is who I am now...someone that eats a lot less, a lot better, and someone who is as active as possible....it's all that simple now....all thanks to the band.

What the other people are looking at, is that I have lost 10 lbs since March by just watching what I eat. That is why they think I can do this on my own. But I got about to 100 lbs more. I cant lose that much weight without help. Why cant they see that?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
