20 days till Surgery and Scared!

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is Nov. 7th! I was very excited until I started reading horror stories online. I'm now afraid of complications or not losing weight. I start my liquid diet this coming Thursday and I'm also worried about being weak and irritable during those two weeks!! Can anyone offer words of support and or your success stories! So I know I'm not alone!

Thanks!

-Lauren

Lauren, you are NOT alone. Only really HARDCORE people don't have second thoughts, specially if you've been reading horror stories. Yes, the exist, but for every horror story there are numerous more success stories. It's good that you are educating yourself, that way you can make an informed decision. Let THAT help you make your mind up..... Never fear! Fear paralyzes you and keeps us from greatness.

Thank you so much, that helped a lot. I am a worrier by nature and even now I'm thinking of possible problems I could encounter even tho I know I'll be fine .. I just have to keep telling myself that!

I'm not saying you won't be hungry during the preop phase, but honestly I wasn't. I had to do some convincing to keep hubby from becoming a closet eater. He was hesitant to eat in front of me. But I truly wasn't bothered by it. You will do fine. As for complications, they can happen to anybody, but odds are pretty slim. Just keep your focus on the prize ahead. It is just a tool not a solution, but it has been very helpful to me and lots others.

I'm determined now to stick to the diet and exercise but will I still be motivated in 6 months? I'm afraid to become one of those people who loses the weight and gains it all back! (That is my past weight loss experience! -100lb to +100lb) I just wish my surgery was tomorrow because for the next 20 days I will just be in my head with doubt.. My goal is to lose 110lb (and keep it off)

My surgery is the 30th of Oct ... I think all of our emotions are pretty normal to be feeling. Should I, shouldn't I, what if's ... try to keep positive. Anytime I need some extra motivation, I stop by this site and start reading posts. Before we know it, our day will be here. I start my liquids on Sunday and I am dreading it ... but I know I can do it! I am mentally and physically committed to making a great change for my health and well being. Good Luck to you!!!

I am so thankful I found this site! Thanks everyone I'm a little less nervous! I just hope these 20 days go by fast! Especially the 2 weeks of liquid diet!

Ohhhh on a side note: I'm a nursing student so I decided to pull a video of a lab band surgery and watch it from start to finish...... Yaaaaaa I don't recommend that at all!!!

You can do this. Just as I tell everyone, there is likely cold feet right before a major commitment, it will be like you are marrying your band! A whole new life! Sure there are ups and downs, and there could be complications, but I felt like I was burried alive when I was at my highest weight and that wasn't living. Living my life that way was a complication.

Good luck, you deserve this!

LoL on the video!!

The most difficult days for me were the first three days, after that it was a breeze. Some people dont experience hunger during the two weeks, lets hope youre one of Them. I have no doubt you'll stay committed, I mean, you said you've lost before WITHOUT a tool like the band.... Imagine what you'll accomplish with it! Believe in yourself. And visit is daily ;)

Thank you I think I needed to hear that.. I feel the same way.. I can't understand how being so big can make you feel so invisible.. Like you aren't worth as much as other people, or they just see through you.. I'm so ready for this to be the new me..

How much time do you suggest I take off work/school? I'm a nursing student and I work as a medical assistant in a doctors office and I'm a manager at cvs so I'm always on my feet and active? I'm struggling with judging how much time I should take.. What do you think?

I wasn't working when I had my surgery.... Maybe someone else can better guide you in this regard, but I will say I was PERFECTLY fine after two weeks.... I'm not sure if you can afford taking off that long.

Please don't be scared, this procedure may save your life. There is risk at the dentist office and walking across the street. Look at all the successful stories here in this forum, they far exceed the failed ones. Look at yourself as a Winner!

Best wishes and Keep the faith.

I'm getting banded on Tuesday and going back to work the following Monday. My serge on said some people are good after 2-3 days and some need 1-2 weeks. It's all an individual thing and there's just no way to predict where you'll fall.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
