Recommended Posts

Hello. I was wondering how long people had gas pains for? I have a terrible shoulder pain due to gas pain, I was wondering how much longer it might last? Thanks :)

How long has it been since your surgery? I had shoulder pain for about a week.. I used a heating pad and liquid Tylenol for the pain.. occasionally when I eat too fast or a little too much I get a pain in the shoulder but not as much as right after surgery... keep moving and definitely drink.. You will feel much better soon...

I had surgery on Monday. The pain comes and goes. I am trying to walk when I feel it but it actually feels worse when I walk. Maybe I will try a heating pad, thanks!

The pain is from the leftover CO2. Some doctors told me after the fact that I could have positioned pillows under my hips while laying on my back to try and displace the leftover gas from the phrenic nerve which is around the stomach. The pain is actually referring up into the shoulder area. I actually put ice on my shoulder. Moving does help the leftover gas dissipate quicker. In also saw where it is recommended to lay on your side and pull your knees up as close to your chest as possible for 5-15 mins to try and get relief. I asked the office what I could do and they said gas-x but the only way that would have helped would have been if it was intestinal gas, and this isn't. It's that left over CO2 from the lap-

I had stomach grumbling. I took it as a sign I was hungry! Pretty much my clear liquid days. At 4. 5 weeks out, I will Occasionally have it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
