Introduction: Banded on 9/17/13, and 1st fill can't come fast enough

Recommended Posts

Hi! Happy to find an online support group for LapBand patients! During 2 week pre-op diet through one week post op visit, I lost 18.5lbs. Since then, I've only managed to lose a pound. Nurse told me not to be discouraged if I don't lose any weight between one week post op visit and first fill on 10/28/13. I am hungry, and on weekends I tend to push the limits. Anything can slip though this sucker. My understanding is that the band is simply sitting there, so perhaps I should be using this time to heal, and still make good food and beverage choices like I did during my 2 week pre-op diet? Can somebody please confirm this? A 1 pound loss in a month is disheartening, especially since I attend a Water aerobics class 4-5 times a week, and do a strength training class once a week. Thanks in advance for your support. :)

I was told it was a time for focusing on healing. Eat gently and make your very best food choices. I chose to eat organic foods so my body was not having to deal with pesticides and hormones, as well as heal itself.

You may want to decide to nip the "pushing limits" in the bud right now. It will be very exciting when you see the weight just coming off every time you step on the scale!!

I had to have some serious talks with myself about priorities every now and again. What do I really want?

Glad you like to exercise!!! that will come in very handy!

This stage is really about healing. You'll likely need 2 or 3 fills before having any restriction.

My advice is as was suggested. Start making the right food choices even though you may find yourself feeling a little hungry for now. You want to start this journey off on the right foot. You've invested a lot in this procedure. You don't want to sabotage yourself right out of the gate!

Don't worry about weight loss right now. Let your body recover from surgery & get your first fill appointment booked as soon as you can.

Called the nurse yesterday morning. She said when patients come for their first fill she'd like them to be within a 5 lb. range of where they were at their 1 week post-op appointment. Phew. I've been able to maintain, but it has been hard without the fill. Thanks for your comments! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
