Hello All,

I was banded on 02/23/2007 by Dr. Amson in Victoria, BC. I have very little pain, but I like to sleep on my side which is not too comfortable yet. I'm starting to feel hungry and this is frustrating. I know that this is only a short phase but it seems like forever right now. Any advice is much appreciated!

Congratulations! Don't worry so much about the hunger, it's normal. It'll take a couple of fills before you really feel a difference, so don't get discouraged. I thought I wouldn't be able to sleep on my side, but after the first couple of weeks it was fine. Now I can even lay on my stomach! You'll be fine...keep us posted.

Keep a bottle of Water with you at all times to sip on (not when you are eating of course)...it gives you something to do with your hands rather than snacking....and the water fills you a little. Just remember that this time is the most difficult, and you ARE doing it!!! You ARE getting there---soon you can start the fill process, and it will ease up. Staying busy helped me, as did doing things that require my hands so I couldn't eat!!!

As for sleeping on your side, just try it, and if you can great!!! If not---give it a day or so, then try again....you might try a pillow under your belly (if you have a belly like mine it helps) for support. I have no problems now sleeping on my side, even on my belly, but it took awhile.

You are in what they refer to around here as Bandster Hell, you have a band in place, with no fill, and liquid diet....it is hard, but we all survived it, and so will you!!! It is of the utmost importance that you follow the Dr.'s orders as you recover, the band is setting into place, and you don't want to risk that. Just hang tight, it will pass....and soon you will hardly remember it!

Welcome to bandland, and also to LBT, we are glad to have you here!!!

Kat

I was banded on the 28th and the hunger is getting to me too. I'm scared to eat very much at a time but it's hard to remember to take little sips. I'm sticking with the liquids, but I'm leaning toward the thicker ones. It will be worth it though! If it was easy, then we wouldn't be near as proud when all is said and done!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
