Biotin & Nioxin products for hair

Recommended Posts

I have been taking Biotin since day one of surgery 16 months ago and just bought my first bottle of Nioxin Shampoo, pricey, having used it yet, just got it yesterday. I was wanting your take on it? Went to get my hair done today and my stylist said it does not promote new Hair growth just keeps it from falling out and never to stop it once you start. I thought it promoted new hair growth??? Since being banded I am so thin, so thin, I've had to cut my hair off shorter, I hate it. I'd change my picture on here but for some reason it won't let me or maybe Im not doing it right, idk. Any suggestions on the products? I do know the biotin makes it grow longer as far as new growth Im not seeing any.

I am in the same position as you are. I have been wearing baseball hats on a daily basis to cover my thinning hair and was told that is bad too because it doesn't allow your hair to breath. I have been taking Biotin daily and using Nioxin for a year now and really don't notice much of a difference in regards to the Nioxin. I do notice it makes my hair feel and look heavier like there is a coating on it. I am just using up the product I have and I think I am done. Not seeing the results to justify the price. My grandmother was thinning in the hair area too so I am assuming I am dealing with genetics but I too am at a loss. Ready to invest in a couple of wigs. Good luck on your end.

I used Nioxin a few years ago, and it was GREAT! My hair was falling out, and the Nioxin stopped it. The hair did fill in, and though I'm not certain that Nioxin stimulates growth, hair tends to grow back after a shed, anyway. If Hair loss is due to male pattern baldness (yes, women get it too), then I think that's a different story. I could be wrong, but I remember hearing that awhile back. And now that we're talking about it, I'm going to pick up some Nioxin today :)

Hey, maybe we can get group rates at the Hair Club! SERIOUSLY, my hair is already very fine, and I told may hairdresser that I'm going to end up with a wig in the next 2-3 years. Sad.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
