I actually started having some of the Protein shakes about two months before surgery. I was practicing :D With all the different Protein powders out there, the one I keep around all the time, is the chocolate Premiere ready made shakes. I don't drink them much anymore, but on the mornings when I can't deal with food, I grab one.

Good luck - VERY exciting!!

Hi there, can you tell me about the Nutri-Bullet -- will it chop up ice into a shake, grind flax seeds, etc.? Best wishes!

Not sure about the flax seed, but it sure chops up the ice! It's a bigger version of the magic bullet. I figured I would need it in the coming weeks/months.

The Nutribullet has two separate blades, the normal one for chopping.....and then a less violent one for just milling things...exactly like flax seed in bulk or coffee Beans and the like.

I use mine every day I commute to work. The two small cups are my perfect Breakfast portion size. Half a cup of skim milk, a cup of ice (as crushed as my fridge spits it out), a scoop of chocolate Protein powder (body fortress) and then one other thing. I've tried peppermint extract (not bad), cocoa powder (not that good), instant Decaf coffee (awesome), and most recently PB2 (awesomer!)

Pre-op, I used it a lot (lost thirty pounds). Post-op, I used it for the blended phase of the diet and now for Breakfast shakes. Long term, I'm not sure it's the best as I think it would be too easy to slip the liquid through the band. I'm reserving judgement for just now.

Love the nutribullet! Couldn't live without it. Banded 9/13. Use it all the time. Puree everything from chicken, crabmeat for seafood salad, pineapple chunks with yogurt for smoothie, cauliflower that was been microwaved! Best purchase. Looking forward to Protein Shakes.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
