Great Restriction Then none

Recommended Posts

I have just had my fifth fill. I was banded 10 months ago, December 6, 2012 and haven't lost any weight. My history is that I have a great restriction for 1 to 2 weeks after each fill, and then the restriction slowly decreases. I think I am currently up to around five –-ish cc in my band. I am currently on my 8th day post-fill and I have GREAT restriction. It's a challenge to get 800 calories in. My question is: what if I lose restriction after this fill as I have on all the others? My nurse removed all of the saline during the last fill to ensure that there is no leak. Some of the saline did not appear to be there, but she chalked it up to two things: 1. It's virtually impossible to remove every cc of Fluid from the band, and 2. She said that perhaps human error could be a factor, that one of the nurses could have done their math incorrectly. If this fill doesn't "take "I don't know what I am going to do. What are everyone's thoughts?

Sure does sound like a leak. Do you lose weight during the time you have good restriction?

Hmmm..."slowly" losing restriction? "some of the saline did not appear to be there" Those two things, especially taken together...indicates a POSSIBLE leak to me. But it also could be nothing more than you need a bit more added. Maybe the fill person didn't actually get it all removed to determine how much was there. Not sure why they wouldn't be able to...but, I'm sure someone has had this happen to them and will reply.

I've never had any disappearing saline, but certainly needed to ADJUST my fill amount after losing weight.

Now if you had said you had great restriction and then BAM, it was gone, and all the Fluid is still remaining in the "system", then I'd suggest it could be something else. One thing is for sure, a fluoroscopy check will show a band thats come undone.....just sayin', from my experience.

Best wishes :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
