Has anyone ever used Isopure Zero Carb Protein mix for their pre-op liquid diet? My surgery is in November and I have to do a 3 week liquid diet which will consist of 4 meal replacement/protein shakes per day and all of the sugar-free no-calorie Clear Liquids I want. The surgeon's office says slim fast is fine but I'm just concerned about the low amount of protein in those. They only have 10 grams of protein per serving, according to the bottle. That means I'd only be getting about 40 grams of protein per day, which is not enough. Any thoughts or advice?

There are a lot of different options out there. Are you wanting something that is premixed? If so, I highly recommend PureProtein. Its a little more expensive, but in my opinion way better. They sell it in the tubs of power as well and it is cheaper that way. After trying tons of different powders I found that I liked the premixed better. However, If you are fine with powder and mixing them yourself I know places like GNC sell sample single servings so you can try out different flavors/brands before committing to one. That would be my suggestion. Hope it helps. I have not tried the Isopure Zero Carb

I like the Isopure in the bottles at GNC. I don't like milk and a lot of the other Protein shakes have that milky consistency that gagged me. But, the bottles are in a Water base - so they are kind of like koolaid - I've tried fruit punch, orange & pineapple one. It's 160 calories prob- 40 grams Of Protein no carbs. It's a big bottle, I don't drink the whole bottle at a time, just divide it up in smaller servings throughout the day - just a suggestion ;)

I have tried pre made and powder shakes. I ordered Isopure Low Carb Dutch chocolate. (I believe its 3 grams of carbs per serving). The serving size is two scoops at 50 grams per Protein. I usually did a scoop and a half per shake. The flavor is not very strong but it does not taste bad. If I were to have a pre made shake like I did some days, I preferred Muscle Milk LIGHT or Atkins Dark chocolate Royale.

You especially want to get shakes low in sugar so your glucose levels are not peaking and dropping. That will just make you feel more hungry.

I drink it every day. My biggest issue is that it smells like "fart in a bottle!" I'm serious! I pour it out of the wider mouth glass bottle and pour it into a water bottle then I can't smell it. I like it because its tart. My fave is alpine pinch, but I can tolerate the mango peach and the coconut . They are pricey but they are cheaper to order them online at Vitamin Shoppe.< /p>

Lol - yea I think with the Protein drinks or shakes - they are all going to have something funky going on with them (consistency, after taste, smell) lol

I drink Isopure daily I get the vanilla cream flavor and add my frozen fruits to them. I like it and it's got lots of Protein. I compared the ingredients with the shakes I can buy at doctors and it was similar. I found a site on line that rated Protein powders and also allowed you to compare nutritional content . I don't really like chocolate Protein Shakes the flavor is just never quite right.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
