Back on carbs.....Darn

Recommended Posts

I literally crave sweets all day and i have a feeling it has something to do with all the aspartame and splenda I've been eating and drinking. I have a fill tomorrow and I think I'm going to use this opportunity to go clean and detox from carbs. Also i am going to start tracking on my fitness pal so I don't have to guess on how many calories i am eating. This is going to take more work than I thought but in the end it is worth it. Is anyone else craving carbs like crazy?

I drink sweet & low nonstop and would not associate it w/ sugar cravings. When I do want something sweet or salty I usually grab a 100 cal cookie bag or a 90 cal Kelloggs popcorn flavored chips back. Both satisfy my cravings and I usually indulge only 1-2x/week.

It's a matter of what figuring out what works best for your body and metabolism.

Some people do find that artificial sweetners cause sugar/carb cravings. In fact, there's been studies done recently suggesting that people who drink a lot of artificial sweetners can actually lead to obesity and diabetes in some people.

Here's the info: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162-57593133/artificial-sweeteners-could-lead-to-obesity-diabetes/

If your body is telling you artificial sweetners are a problem- listen to it. A big part of the journey is figuring out which food lifestyle is best for you. People have a wide range options, everything from low fat, to low carb, and everything in between. None are "right" or "wrong" it's just a matter of what works best for you.

Best wishes.

Good luck with your fill today! During my pre op, I bought some diet snapple to adhere to the rules. But this is the way I think: there is NO way, as harmful as sugar IS (being that its "natural") that its more harmful than something ARTIFICIAL (unless you're diabetic)

What I'm trying to say is- I feel that a little bit of natural sugar here and there is better than a lot of ARTIFICIAL sweeteners all the time.

I stopped fake sugar when I got banded, because I stopped drinking Diet Coke. That was my source of fake sugar.

I do noticed that my sugar/carb cravings are greatly reduced. Not sure if it correlates with the lack of artificial sweetners, or the fact I don't consume as many direct carbs (no bread, Pasta, etc) but I'm so glad to have that out of my system. I agree with HotButterFly above that a bit of real sugar has to be better for one's body than masses of Monsanto-produced chemicals. It just makes sense.

You'll feel so much better on a clean diet. Carbs cause cravings for lots of people -- you are not alone there. And personally I think artificial sweeteners are not good for my body. Good luck today with your fill! And tracking. That helps me so much to see what I'm eating.

I only use Truvia (Stevia) and I was diabetic so after using splenda, equal etc for years I was having more sugar cravings ..I started using Truvia several years ago and was never a big diet drink person .. I think as long as you are not diabetic a little "real" sugar would be okay.. my nutritionist suggest I eat less than 5 grams in anything I eat.. I adhere to that pretty much.. There is sugar in alot of things you wouldn't think.. check your labels ...even the so called Protein, diet products.. fat free is the worst offender.. most of the fat is replaced by sugar..

I agree with you. Once I stopped that I have basically reduced snacking. I don't miss it. And also don't like the taste anymore either.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
