Getting to know my body

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post op today (yay!!) and I feel like finally, for the first time in my life, I am starting to get to know my body and listen to what it's telling me. I'm finally figuring out how to eat until I'm no longer hungry, not until I'm about to vomit from thinking I need to eat every morsel of food in front of me. I'm down 30lbs since I started the pre-op diet, which is just amazing. People I haven't seen much in the past 3 weeks have asked me if I'm ok because the amount of weight I've lost is noticeable in my face and stomach. Of course, they didn't know I had the Lap band done! :) I feel like I'm in control of my body for the first time ever in my life, and I'm so happy with myself!

So happy for you, Sarah -- that tuning in and the being able to listen and respond appropriately to signals are exactly what I'm looking for from my band relationship. I know it won't happen overnight but that is my goal.

Thank you! It's amazing how eye opening this whole process is. You will soon be there..less than one month!

What a wonderful feeling, you deserve it! (We all do.) I can't believe that I am eating probably 1/3 of what I used to and I'm satisfied!! Good luck and keep up the good work =)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
