A caution about fills

Recommended Posts

Timely post for me. I'm debating a third fill. I've lost 24# in 12 weeks. I have 3.5cc in a 10cc band. I follow all the band rules, especially the ones about Protein. But I still feel hungry after about 2 hrs. I've never been stuck, slimmed or pb'ed. So the debate is am I doing all the work or should I get the band to do its job. I'll talk to my pa but I'd like to hear what others think. If I'm this close to green and should I risk going past green. Last fill was sept 30th. TIA

I'm concerned because I know I'm not in the green zone yet. However , if I'm busy and wait too long to eat I get a nauseated feeling. Sometimes I get busy and I wait to eat and then I wait too long and I start to feel sick. Once I eat however, I feel better.

I'm hoping my next fill will be my last fill. My doctor is extremely conservative and I'm good with that.

I was hoping you would get some feedback. I have had maybe 3 fills and 2 unfills in 10 years so I don't feel I'm a good one to respond. Sounds like you are doing great. My suggestion though (and hopefully you will hear from some others) if you had your fill Sept. 30th I would give it a month. I have known people who got more restriction even a couple weeks out from an adjustment. Strange, I know. But there is so much about the band that isn't consistent. Good luck and keep up the good work.

I have 1.5 cc in a 4 cc band any more than that any I am to tight.

I Love ice cream shakes but it would not mater how tight the band was ice cream and chocolate will always slide down for me. So just because I love them does not mean I can have them every day.

Fortunately for me I make more good choices than Bad choices and I concentrate on The NSV's.

I am just as confused as well!! I have lost 35# since 2 weeks prior to my surgery - 6.21.13... I am on 6.5 fill in my 14cc band. I have had NO restrictions up until this last fill...and it has been tough to get even ONE bite down! Hopefully we can both find the gree spot soon!

How do you learn to listed to your body?

What I mean my listening to my body is... when I eat I stop eating when I feel satisfied... not stuffed. I plan my dinners for week in advance and always have Snacks in the refrigerator (usually cold turkey with dip). I make sure I eat three meals a day and sometime 2 Snacks. I hardly never have "head hunger" anymore because I now know when I'm really hungry.... also because now when I eat I'm more satisfied I'm not as hungry in between meals.

When I was losing I had great results because I kept a food journal for 4 months, planned my meals and went to support group meetings... I also only got weighed and measurement once a month by my family doctor.

I think listening to our bodies is something that is foreign to many of us and a real contributor the reasons why we ended up obese. Very good advice. And a great lesson if we all can learn it we will certainly succeed.Thank you, Tom.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
