    • I look for any menu item with some sort of lean protein and plan to eat only the protein (for example, I only eat the turkey and leave the bun if I get a turkey burger).

    • I ask the server if I can have some grilled chicken and steamed vegetables.

    • I order whatever looks good and plan to just eat a couple of bites. You might as well take advantage of the restaurant?s good cooking!
      27
    • I bring my own food so I can enjoy spending time with everyone else while they eat the restaurant?s food.

    • I don?t go to restaurants anymore. There?s nothing I can eat with my weight loss surgery.

When I'm good, I try to order the most healthy items I can & "when the Devil made do it" I eat whatever I want! For years I have eaten mostly good when dining out and still got fat by eating to much GOOD food.< /p>

The other day my husband asked where I wanted to eat for my birthday. I said a restaurant that is closed Then we recalled what I use to order. First we would eat 2 baskets of crackers with butter. Then we would each have 6 jumbo coconut shrimp. Then I would eat a big ass porter house steak. Yes I ate all that.

So the band has saved me from that type of eating. We use to eat at that restaurant 1-2 times a week. Glad now it's closed.

I have found Chick-Fil-A to be the best fast food restaurant. Sometimes we have to eat on the go. Tonight was one of those nights. I got a grilled chicken wrap. 320 calories and 38 grams of Protein. They'll ask what dressing you want on the side but I would just say NO to the dressing or if you absolutely have to have it go with fat free. I also like to get the grilled ckn nugget kids meal with fruit instead of waffle fries. Yummo!

We rarely go to restaurants but when we do they are usually vegan friendly. If there's a special occasion and it's at a place that is more on the unhealthier side, we eat before we go.

I actually do not enjoy restaurants anymore and would much prefer home cooking. When I do eat out I will do the Protein and veggie and even that always taste like it is sweetened with sugar or salted. I suffer from edema on my legs and the sodium even the slightest bit does a number on me. I do enjoy a nice (Sorry CarolinaGirl) Salmon or grilled trout from time to time.

Jim I order salmon a lot when out. I also make it at home at least once a week.

CG- I didn't eat salmon until I was at a party and thought it was swordfish. Since then I eat it all the time. I use bourbon sauce or an Asian sauce and make it crispy.

Sometimes appetizers, sometimes eat a bite or two off hubby's plate, love soups!

There has been a learning curve for sure! Initially, I would take my own to go container so I could immediately clear half of the plate. I hate it when servers or companions ask if there is something wrong with the food? When you say no, it usually does not end there,,,

Or if you don't want anything to drink, it really bothers everyone. I am working hard to not be a people pleaser!

I totally understand about the drinks. Some one once said to just order Water and don't drink it. That way no one keeps asking if you want a drink.

I take home left overs all the time and don't care what anyone says. I also order from the children's menu. There is a local restaurant chain (Boston area) and their children's menu has salmon, grilled chicken and steak tips with fresh veggies. Their food is super!

Well, since most of my family eat gluten free, we ask for either gluten free rolls or no rolls. Them my daughter, son and I have had lapband surgery, so when going with them, which is who I usually eat with, we order either 1/2 meals or off the appetizer menu. One time, we were at a DisneyWorld restaurant, and had their French onion Soup, gluten free and then shared a very small desert. Both my son and I were quite satisfied!

First I usually check their nutritional information on line and start to make decisions well before I go to the restaurant. My dietician gave me a card so I can order off of the kids menu, the card verifies that I've had bariatric surgery. I usually order some kind of grilled Protein and double veggies. I'm feeling so good and looking fantastic, there isn't anything that is going to get in my way of reaching my goal.

I love Olive garden , and see it says garden so I can have as much salad my band will allow me , how ever if I get the zuppa tuscano Soup I am in trouble because of the potato's , and I love the bread sticks but I can only have 2 quarter size bites then I will give it to someone else as even if I dunk it in the soup I know I will be in big trouble so I do try to stay away from the bread but I make my healthy choices and ask questions to make sure I also look at the calorie info as many places in California have to let us know about the nutrion and calorie count, so I am the one who chooses what I should or not should have and of course I like all kinds of food , but that;s how I got so unhealthy , so I choose to be healthy now , so I am a Adult and know what's good or bad for me lol, .

You know I tried using my card for the lapband surgery that they give you at a couple of restaurants and they wouldn't let me do it - so I just don't bother anymore. But, I do order sides or Soup when I go out and I do ok with that.

I typically use My Fitness Pal to see the impact of eating at xyz prior to going in the door. My wife has been on a non banded diet along with me and we have found that splitting meals works best. Even then a lot of times we will have a take home bag.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
