Oh, yeah. Definitely sounds like you were stuck :( Not fun and sometimes resolves more quickly and easily than others. My family definitely knows when it happens by the look on my face. Generally I try to relax and give whatever it is time to go down. If not I head to the bathroom. Sometimes just standing up and starting to walk will take care of it. I have known people who do what they call the chicken dance and flap their arms and move around and that works for them. It's not fun when it sneaks up on you and it's not a PB but a true hurl. If you ever have that happen be sure to take some time to rest up and not go directly back to trying to eat. Your pouch will be irritated and swollen. For me sometimes I will be very hungry and get in too big of a hurry. That never works out well. And the big difference with the band is that it just seems to stack up. You can't try to wash it down with any liquid. Only makes it worse. Just try to be cognizant of what you are doing and eat slowly and chew chew chew.

Yeah, symptoms for me are: Slime(flegm, saliva) discharge, nausea, hard to speak, feels like a golf ball is stuck under my sternum, no drinking or eating till it passes. Takes 15-60 minutes to pass depending on how dry it is, how solid it is or how much I tried to shove down my piehole.

I have had only a few stuck episodes and both were with chicken.. I have switched to dark meat chicken, like thighs.. I make sure if I have them they are cooked in liquid.. also I have had a few close calls with eating too fast.. make sure you lay your fork down between bites and try to chew at least 20 times or more with each bite.. no drinking while eating, etc. all the rules are there for a reason.. Getting stuck is very painful.

Yep, as the others mentioned you are stuck, and a stuck episode can be very painful and last for HOURS. Please remember the more saline you get in your band, you will have to adjust what you eat, if grilled chicken worked at a previous fill level, it may not work with next fill adjustment.

When I am in the green zone, I cannot eat grille chicken, I agree with the above poster, I have to get creative, eat dark moist chicken with lots of sauce, it's the price you pay for restriction.

You do want to avoid getting stuck often, it can cause band issues -- long term

OMG Sunny! You made me bust out laughing! The chicken dance, I love it! I can just picture it in my head!

Sorry for the stuck...but thanks Sunny for the chuckle!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
