Any banded college students?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Are there any banders out there that are also college students? I'm in my last semester at a state school in Connecticut, and it is soooo frustrating, I don't think I sleep at all and on top of that work, it's really stressful! Anybody out there for the whole school support thing? Because I would be okay for that!

Tomorrow I'm going to a home healthcare agency that my cousin works at, they need homemakers/companions. The job pays 10 bucks/hour but there are benefits, so I'm hoping they can give me 3, 12 hour days on fri, sat, sun and then have the rest of the week off for school. ARGHH this is so stressful!!!:faint:

Don't give yourself a breakdown!

I'm a part time grad student currently-- I'm nervously waiting for letters in the mail that tell me what masters programs I got admitted to for Library Science to start full time in the fall. I finished my bachelors in May. I also work very part time.

My husband has the good benefits-- the job with the income.

I'm narcoleptic so I totally can't relate to not sleeping... Sorry. I've always needed at least nine hours a night. Its at the top of my priority list before studying and everything else because I can't study or anything if I can't stay awake...

I also have fibromyalgia. This meant that for me extracurrics were pretty much nonexistant. I babysat afterschool when I was an undergrad since I could do that and the pay was decent.

I'm a little nervous about weight and campus and so forth, if i do the campus program that I want to instead of an online one. There is definitely a need to plan more and not live out of vending machines.

Whats your major? I started out in Engineering Physics then when I failed out of that (oops I found out I have a rare learning disability that doesn't do so well in spatial stuff) I ended up with double majors in psychology and creative writing. And now I am pursuing Masters in Library Science.

I started college last year and I'm majoring in Social Work. It's very stressful. I had surgery during Christmas Break between semesters and have scheduled all my classes this semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays so i have Mon/Wed/Fri open for fill appts etc. I really want to focus on my health right now but with raising my three kids and having endless papers, projects and studying the stress is outrageous. On School days I have a Protein shake before school and drink my Water all day but then often don't get to eat again until after school because all that's available is those icky vending machine foods.

Still, the lapband is the best decision (health-wise) I've ever made and hey- at least I fit more comfortably in the desks now!!

I'm a sociology major. It's not easy scheduling stuff around school and life, I can't wait for spring break, because I'm going to sleep in every day and do nothing until I have to go to work!!!!! May cannot come fast enough, and it's like a domino effect.

For the whole vending machine diet on campus, I carry my meals with me. Since I can only eat 1/4 cup, it's practically nothing. For example today, I brought 1/4 cup of Protein Cereal and a mozzarella cheese stick. Then when I get home I'll make something else, probably egg salad. When I was on my liquid diet, I would get weird looks about drinking a little bit of "chocolate milk" but at this point in my life, I don't care what other people think.

It was funny though, because the other day I was sitting in one of the classrooms, and a fellow student looked at me and goes "am I in the right class?" I told him, yeah, it's almost midterms!! He goes "oh you did something different with your hair I think". No dude, it's 37 lbs.!

We're not in the same boat but I'm a student, working on a 2nd Master's Degree. Just another notch on my bedpost of useless things I spend lots of money on. :girl_hug:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
