Newbie . . . getting banded in Mexico on 3/19/07

Recommended Posts

:) I will be banded in a few weeks and I'm not afraid to say . . . I'm just a little nervous. However, I am even more excited. I am 42, 5' 4", and 233 pounds.

Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated and I will promise to pay it forward when the time comes. Thanks

There is SOOOOOO much advice to be had out there---give us an idea what is making you nervous, and we will try to help!!! I can tell you it was a very simple surgery in my opinion. I LOVE my band!

Pre-op advice....let's see. Cut out all carbonated drinks now! Eliminate as many of the carbs and as much of the sugar as you can now---it will ease the transition into the liquid diet, and make the first weeks following much easier.

Make sure you have plenty of Protein Drinks (both clear liquid, and shakes) on hand, as well as broths, and whatever you choose to drink the first few days home, so you don't have to run to the store or anything. Make sure you have GasX, and a heating pad ready just in case, you might be one that has pain from residual gas. Have some liquid Tylenol on hand.

Now if you are flying to Mexico----I can come up with some more---I too flew to MX.

Let me know---feel free to PM me anytime.

Welcome to LBT---we are glad you are here!

Kat

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
