I am new and have had Plication with gastric banding

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just had my plication surgery on 8/9/13. I already have and have had a lap band for several years. Unfortunately I was not successful in keeping the 90 lbs I lost off with just my lap band plus I developed a hiatal hernia. So my wonderful doctor suggested the lap band revision along with the plication. I was in a deep dark place and decided to go for it once again. My band did not need to be replaced it was in perfect order and no slippage. So he repaired my hernia and did the plication. I felt great after right after surgery! I started walking that very night after surgery because I wanted to go home the next day. There was no rest to be had in that hospital. My band is totally open and will not have a fill for a long while. That gives my hernia time to heal. I have lost 13lbs in the first 2 weeks. I have slowed down now that I am starting my soft foods. Now its time to start my exercising which is my most dreaded part of the day. So I have started with walking and bike riding. I have to say the post surgery is a little more severe this time for me. I took a week off from work. I have returned to work but my main issue is the main incision or (hole) just below the breast bone is taking a long time to heal. The skin and area around the incision is very very sensitive and I almost cant stand my clothes touching that area. I find I can only wear my bra for half the day then its on to a sports bra. Other than that problem I am doing well. My food intake is much less and of course I am trying to do mostly Protein along with some smoothies. I am scared because I thought I would have lost more weight by now but I guess my body is adjusting? And I have not been the best about exercising yet. But I am hopeful and trying to fill myself with a positive attitude.

Did any of you find using a nutritionist helpful?

I guess that is enough about me....I look forward to finding encouragement on exercising from your posts and looking for good recipes. Thanks for reading and sending any positive thoughts and prayers my way.

Don't let the slow weigh get you down. Continue to exercise it will disappear before you know it. I had the sleeve done in 2011 and worry about the weigh as well.

I had my surgery on Tuesday 26th nov, gastric band with plication. The hospital let me go home the next day. Today Saturday 30th November I'm trying to get through the day with no pain killers. Not sure how I will go.

Today was my first time I was able to finish one Protein Drink for Breakfast, I feel like I have a lot of gas which is very painful. What can I do to fix this other than pain relief ?

My energy levels are very low, tried walking around the shops yesterday but became very short of breath and dizzy...is this normal?

What is the amount of liquid food that needs to be consumed per day?

What are other people consuming?

Looking forward to be pain free so I can move around more.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
