Gastric sleeve-done!

Recommended Posts

I have always felt that I was too big, my three sisters are all petite and even skinny. I got up to 180 lbs at age53 and decided that I wanted to live longer and healthier for not just myself but my loved ones. Lots of exciting things like weddings, new houses, are happening with the children and I didn't want to be the 'fat mum' in the background.

I was sleeved 5 weeks ago and did the pre op diet for six weeks before that to really shrink the liver and give the surgery the best chance. I lost 20lbs pre surgery and 16 lbs post, so 36 lbs so far. Just 24 lbs to go to goal. I eat very small portions now and can really tell when I am full. I bought very small bowls (about half a cup size) to help with knowing the amount to serve up. Sometimes even that is too much. food that is easy to eat e.g. yoghurt, I tend to be wary of having too often as I can eat more of it.

I have arthritis everywhere, another reason for the weight loss, and am not sure of the best, least painful exercise to begin with after walking. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (My knees are not too good.)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
