Hi. Sleeve gastrectomy to Plication to kickstart weightloss

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was sleeved two years ago in June. I am 52 from Sydney Australia. My sleeve journey has been difficult. I initially lost 44lb (20kg) very easily. Then I struggled to lose another 20lbs or so. I am back at 205LB (93kg) and have been talking with my surgeon about further surgery to get back into weightloss.

I have Psoriatic Arthritis and have had a fairly bad time with pain and medications over the last year which did not help matters. I have been struggling with depression due to these struggles. Anyway I looked into getting the Mini Gastric Bypass but due to the medications I take there would be too greater risk for Ulcers so need to go a different route. Dr T then suggested I have the Gastric Curve Plication. He said that resleeving which some people are doing by the way carries too many risks for leaks as you are stapling over a previously stapled area. So he said that plication would carry much less risk and would achieve the same thing of going back to a resrticted sleeve.

So I am calling in to say Hi and just wondering if there is anyone around who has also gone from a Sleeve to a Revision of the sleeve using Plication??

Cheers

Aussiegal

I have the plication but have never heard of this revision. To my understanding your stomach is reduced to the same size... Was yours too big?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
