Howdy,

I had my 1st fill this afternoon. The Doc's office was a mad house so I didn't get to ask all the questions I wanted to. I drank my bottle of Water and it went down just fine so they told me I could leave. My question to y'all is should you be drinking the Protein shakes right after your fill? They told me liquid diet for 3 days and then mushies for 4-6 and then back to regular diet. So are the shakes included in the liquid diet. I heard the nurse tell someone only liquids you can see through. Also they said I might have to come back in 2 weeks to get more added to it. Has this happened to a lot of people? How many times have people been back before it was ajusted right? I was also wondering how many people were successful in losing a good amount of weight only after one fill. Mine was filled to 1.3. I had my surgery 4 weeks ago and have lost 22lbs to date. 250lbs to 228lbs. Look forward to hearing from everyone........thanks

Not going to be able to answer much for you. My first fill was today also! My surgeon said soft foods for a day or two and then normal after that. He put 1.5 in mine and I'm to go back in 4 weeks. Does your chest hurt or have pressure in it? Not sure what I'm feeling, that's the only way I can describe it! Good luck!!

Most people have to have 2-5 fills to get to the right amount. Sometimes the first fill doesn't do much for you at all, but I'd rather a doctor take it slow and gentle rather than be too aggressive and get you too tight. It is not uncommon for the first fill not to give you much restriction at all for a week or so, so don't panic if you don't feel any different for a while if at all. My doctor does the first ones about 3 weeks apart.

Protein drinks are fine....do you have any that are clear? The nectar brand powder drinks are clear, as are Isopure. I've always just used the regular powdered Proteins for liquid afterward (made with Water, not milk) and have had no problems.

Did the surgeon not give you any written guidelines before surgery? If so, look back thru the literature....maybe you'll find some more info. It's important to educate yourself on this process....there are rules about eating and drinking that will make the journey go much smoother for you....it's important to be compliant with the rules.

My doc say liquids for the rest of the day (doesn't have to be clear), mushies the next day, then slowly start with solids. My doc is kind of conservaitve with fills...I've had 4 so far. And I go about 2-3 weeks between fills. I'm just now starting to feel a good level of restriction, but I could use a bit more.

The pain you're feeling in your chest is restriction! I get it when I eat too fast or take a bite that's too big. Just be sure to chew, chew, chew!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
