Wow!!! 52 lbs!!!! That's a big number.. What was your starting weight? I got plicated on 14 jun. and have lost 19 lbs so far. I could have done better had i focused myself on proper exercises. My starting weight was 207 lbs. I am currently 189. I feel pretty normal this far. Yes, I feel hungry very often and feel like I can take down a big plate but get full very quickly. I've noticed this happens when; if I go hungry for long hours, or if I skip on solid food esp grains. Grains or carbs should be avoided so I've started making flat bread(Indian chapatti) out of soy Protein, horse gram, sourghum, oats and raagi flours. Another thing I've noticed is that after almost 2.5 months of plication, my stomach can hold much more quantity of food as compared to earlier days post surgery. This is a bit disturbing as this amount is just a little less than half of what I could eat before plication. I don't know If it's my fault but I am trying to keep this under check. But the good part is that I find my eating habits much more manageable and in control, if I am regular with my meals. Overall, so far I am feeling good about my decision but am worried at the same time about the restriction.... How long would it last...

HI Pranjala,

Would you mind sharing your recipe for Indian chapatti? What is the calorie count? It sounds delicious!

Hi ana

I'd be more than glad to share my recipe. Although grains are strictly to be avoided, I haven't been able to keep myself away from chapatti. So, I customised the chapatti for myself. I mix soybean, sourghum, oats, horse gram, finger millet flours in equal quantities along with some wheat bran for fibre. Add Water and workout into soft dough. You can also add ground flaxseed to this flour. I've recently found quinoa flour in india and will be adding that to the flour mixture too. One medium size chapatti has 80 calories( not kcal) but the flour mixture is very nutritious and high in Protein, Calcium and less in carbs. If you further wish to increase Protein increase soybean and quinoa ratio and use whey to work the dough. whey is the leftover liquid after the milk curdles. Watch the link below, it teaches the right way to roll out and cook. One can also make pita bread out of this mixture.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
