Recommended Posts

biggrin.pngbiggrin.pngHave you decided what you plan to do once you hit your goal in 2013? After getting surgery in 2012? Well I hope we all can get together and take a trip or cruise or for some both. I have talked to many people and we are all on the same page. We are getting together to plan a trip and I would love to get as many gastric surgery patients as possible to go. We are going to the Bahamas on a cruise in April and a trip to Las Vegas in November. You will find more information on the site we created for the reunion.

If your are interested please RSVP https://sites.google...reunion-sign-up

If you are on any other forums please repost the link we are inviting any and all gastric surgery patients in 2012 to have fun and show off their new bodies in 2013. Let's keep it going RE-POST, RE-POST, RE-POST

Plication is not an appropiate Surgical procedure.

It has all the disadvantages ( not removing ghreline, not allowing total stomach evaluation, high rate of failue, still grave complications) and no advantage ( it is NOT REVERSIBLE) over sleeve.

For all of this reasons it is not accepted for any Surgical Society.

Besides the removal of ghreline I have to disagree with all that you've said. After all the research I've done, surgeons and bariatric specialist I've talked to this is not the case. It is reversible, rate of success is high ( higher than lb- of course any wls can be unsuccessful depending on the patients willingness to change their lifestyle), and more and more drs are beginning to prefer this procedure. It's way less invasive than the sleeve or gb. That being said, it's up to each individual to choose which is right for them, do the research for yourself and good luck with your journeys:)

In our Italian Centre we operated 50 patients with gastric vertical plication laparoscopy. The group of patients showed a good control of hunger, reported early satiety during meals and a sense of discomfort at each overeating.

The average hospital stay was 36 hours. No intraoperative complications.

All patients had a loss of excess weight (EWL)% to 20% after 1 month.

In further experiments the average was 62% EWL% (range 45-77%) at 1 year

Currently there are four international studies with limited numbers of patients, but on average it was found a% EWL (excess weight loss) of 69.6% at 1 year in 300 patients.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
