For those of you who are post plication surgery, would you do it again? Do you feel like you chose the right surgery? I'm having a hard time deciding between the plication and the sleeve. One day I'm all in for the plication. Then I'll read something that makes me want the sleeve. Just not sure what factors I should really use to make my decision. Surgery date is scheduled so I need to make up my mind!

HI Ani,

When I first thought about having WLS I intended to get the band, but after reading about plication, the sleeve and gastric, plication seemed like the best move for me. My decision was based on the fact that I am not in close proximity to where I had my procedure so that for me ruled out the band. I did not want to have to take a mini vacation every time I needed fills. when I thought about the sleeve, well, I just did not like the thought of having my stomach cut off in any way, so for me, the plication was the way to go.

You need to do that kind of thing. Research what each procedure entails. Rationalize what you are and are not willing to do and list your reasons. I think after you do that a winner or the closest thing to it will emerge. Good luck and keep us updated!

I have the sleeve I am almost 2 months out and I have lost 25lbs so far. I didn't go with the plication because I was wondering what happens to the stomach that is sewn over itself. I read a girl said hers had died and she ended up getting a sleeve. So for me it was a sleeve. I went and had mines done self pay with Dr.Sergio Quinones in Mexico for 3800 on a special but it is normally a little more. Most doctors do both the surgery. You can ask them the difference and figure out what is right for you.

Hmmm.....I REALLY don't know what I would do if I had it to do over again. I chose the plication because I didn't want half my stomach gone with the sleeve, plus I was concerned about leaks, which are less likely with the plication. I didn't want to go with the band because I didn't want to deal with fills, plus my aunt almost died from a leak from necrosis around the band. And I didn't want to do the gastric bypass because, as a nurse, I've seen a few people who are dealing with nutritional issues and anemia that are possibly related to it. So! I chose the plication. However, now that I am a year and a half out from surgery and have only lost about 45 pounds and feel most of my restriction is gone (altough I still can't eat as much as I used to), I am not so sure I would choose the plication again, either. I guess if I was FORCED to decide (as if that would happen!), I might choose the sleeve. Good luck with your decision. It has to be a personal one, so please do lots of research and thinking before you decide which one is right for you. Good luck on your journey!

Go with the sleeve. It has been around longer than the plication, more research, more long-term patients. Plus it actually removes part of the hunger hormone in the stomach. I had the plication and wish I'd had the sleeve. No problems with the plication... I'm losing weight, just wish I'd gone the other way. Good luck with your procedure.

I think That you are going to have to do what is right for you, it is so hard to give people advise when it comes to what surgery is right for. I would tell you go with this surgery 100% only because it has worked for me. My starting weight was 341lbs and today I am 261lbs. I had my surgery on March 3rd in Mexico by Dr.Huacuz and I would not change it for all the money in the world. I do feel like I can eat more then I could 6 months ago, but with that being said it is my own doing and I am working very hard on controlling that. I am going back to basics so I can shrink my tummy some more, I have not been good about going to the gym this summer but the plan is to hit it this fall when the kids go back to school. I wish you the best of luck on whatever path you decide to go down, please feel free to p.m. me if you have any questions.

Plication is not an appropiate Surgical procedure.

It has all the disadvantages ( not removing ghreline, not allowing total stomach evaluation, high rate of failue, still grave complications) and no advantage ( it is NO REVERSIBLE) .

For all of this reasons it is not accepted for any Surgical Siciety.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
