Post Op eye problems

Recommended Posts

I had my plication on Oct 4th and ever since, I cannot see close up! I wear glasses and contacts but since the surgery I have to take my glasses off to see anything within 8" of my nose! Has anyone else had a problem like this? I am actually having trouble seeing my lap top which is sitting on my lab right now. I'm not sure it its the meds i'm on, or if there's a problem.

Also, I would love some advise on clear liquids! I am so tired of veggie broth & crystal lite!!! Any other Clear liquids that I did not think of? I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

Becky

Sorry my eyes have remained more or less the same. You should mention it to your doc just in case it's a side effect of your meds.

I enjoyed chamomile tea post op. I don't drink it normally but I quite enjoyed having it warm.

Please let us know what's up with your eyes when you find out.

All the best.

I have chamomile tea, but I usually take it with a splenda! Do you think it's okay to have splenda?

I will keep you posted about the eye problem.

Thanks,

Becky

Splenda should be OK if it was OK for you before. Some argue that artificial sweeteners make you crave more sweets, so you should watch out for that. I sometimes have stevia as I don't get on with artificial sweeteners (but they caused me problems pre-op and has nothing to do with this surgery).

I had an eye doctor tell me once that Fluid retention can sometimes affect your vision. He said that when women are having their menses and are retaining Fluid because of it, that it affects their vision test results. It might be possible, since your surgery was so recent, that you might still be retaining some fluid, and it might be affecting your vision. However I would still let your doctor know about it in case it's something else.

I spoke to my Dr today about the blurry vision and she said it is a side effect of the anti spasm meds. I looked on the bottle and sure enough it says... Warning, may cause blurry vision! The Dr told me to slowly start coming off the meds and within 48 hours med free, i should be back to normal. At least I can see far away, so I can watch TV during my recovery ;).

Do any of you have small children? I am getting my 18 month old son back from my aunt and uncle tomorrow afternoon, and although my husband will do most of the work over the weekend, I am worried about having him by myself on Monday. He's been away for 5 days and I worry that he will just want to be held and I won't be strong enough to do it. Any advise???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
