1 Week Out Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery

Recommended Posts

So I am one week out tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to creamy Soups. But something weird happened today, I am not certain if it is normal. For some reason, as of today, I can drink just fine. Not small sips, but almost normal drinking. Does that mean I am healing, or is that bad?

I am on Day 3 postop. I can drink anything that fits through a straw. In fact, I forgot I had the surgery (early am sleep walk?) I drank 3 oz of tea in a hurry. So now waiting for stomach cramping to settle down.

I have not had any stomach cramping at all. Does that hurt? Is that like heartburn?

It feels like your stomach is rolling. It doesnt hurt too bad but you are not able to control it. It made me nauseated.

I'm fairly sure that I remember being able to drink normally soon after the plication (with water). I was on clear liquids and Popsicles the week after surgery. Clear liquids for me were basically "clear" Crystal Light type drinks, Water, and fruit juice diluted 1:1 with Water. I wasn't chugging any of that, but sipping and drinking fairly normally soon after surgery.

Hope you're doing well. :)

So what should be normal restriction? I have read many people saying they are not restricted enough. At this point, 12 days out, I can only eat a 4 ounce yogurt, slowly. In somewhat regular foods I had 3 mini ravioli (chef boyardee) before I felt full. At least I think that is what tha feeling is. I don't really feel "hunger" just more of a hollow or empty feeling.

I can't really say what 'normal' restriction should be, but VSGers seem to have far more restriction for a lot longer. I often read about VSGers posting that they're struggling to eat whole egg, although it is important to see how far out they are when they say (I didn't pay much attention to that sort of thing pre-op).

I'd say I can eat maybe 80% of what I could pre-op. If I have a meal I'll eat the meat but won't really touch the rice or potatoes (just a token amount so I don't end up craving it).

I remember when I was a month out I could eat a whole WW ready meal and still feel a bit hungry. I'm getting a barium swallow in a couple of weeks, so that'll be interesting.

At 11 days out. I can eat the same amount of yogurt over a half hour. I eat liquid sugar free oatmeal over a half hour too. I do feel when I need to stop. I cant just eat three meals. I eat about every 3 hours. I only have sugar free popsicles close to bedtime. You sound about right to me. Other things make me full sooner like the 3 soft fair fries I cheated with yesterday. That was my limit.

At two weeks out I am 229.2 Which is just a hair above 20 lbs. I guess that is a lot for two weeks. One thing I have noticed is that I am a lot more....jigglier? My chubby belly and arms are more ..um.. squishy?

I'll be a week out tomorrow and the scale says I am down 17 lbs, but I don't feel it or see it. Does anyone else have pain after they burp? Is this normal? I would think that letting out gas bubbles would cause relief, but I get a tightening pain about 2 seconds after I burp ;(. It only lasts a few seconds, but it's rather annoying!

Honestly I have not had to burp really at all. What are you drinking that makes you burp?

I just seem to have a lot of gas bubbles! I've been drinking Tomato Soup, yogurt, butternut squash Soup, caffeine free herbal tea, & Water. It was happening right after surgery as well and at that time I was only drinking vegetable broth & Water. When I went in for my "day after surgery" appt and the Dr made me drink that chalk stuff, we could both see an air bubble in my stomach at that time too! I hope it goes away, it is very uncomfortable! I am going in tomorrow for my 1 week appt and i'm hoping she will let me start on soft foods.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
