Pregnancy After Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery?

Recommended Posts

hi all - I found this site through lapbandtalk.com - I'm really considering plication and wondered if anyone knows if it's safe to get pregnant after having the plication??

I can find info on the subject under the lap band sites, but can't find anything under plication.

thanks!

All I know is what my Dr told me. Because I am in a research study here in Everett, WA, they have asked that I not get pregnant for 3 years during the study. My Dr then smiled and told me that it was best to wait at least a year after the surgery before getting pregnant again (she said it's not good to get pregnant when you are rapidly losing weight). She said I would have no problem being pregnant after the surgery. I guess it makes sense.... I couldn't eat that much when I was pregnant due to the baby squishing my stomach. The reality is that you only need an extra 300 calories a day for a growing baby. People say you eat for 2, but it's just not true. I ABSOLUTELY plan on having another baby when the time comes that I can safely get pregnant again.

I would say.... Definitely talk to your Dr about it! I am not worried at all since my Dr put me at ease about it!

thanks y'all - I feel really good about this procedure. I want to get healthier so that I can have another child - that's my main motivation at the moment. I just feel alot of pressure (self-inflicted) to get this done soon. I wish I could find a way to pay for it!

I used a 12 month interest free credit card to pay for my surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
