Had a Vomiting Incident...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I had an incident that I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced. I haven't vomited at all since my surgery (7 weeks) but last night I had a chocolate Sundae from Sonic. I couldn't finish it and immediately after eating it, I hurt (I guess I ate too much) then as I was getting ready for bed, it all came back up. Ice cream should go down pretty well, even with possible overeating - I'm wondering if it was all the sugar that my body isn't used to.

Has anyone else had this type of reaction to excessive sugar? A small treat went very wrong... :-(

I'm sorry, I never experience anything like that, and I also had ice cream, but never vomited. It's probably to much sugar for your body.Or maybe you drank it to fast.

When I read your post, I wonder if this wasn't a reaction to the sugar content in the sundae. I was about at your point post surgery (I think) when I got a sugary drink from Starbucks and felt like I'd be sick, but it ultimately passed. I felt cold, my heart raced, I sweated, and felt like I could vomit, but never actually did. You had your surgery with Dr. Ponce like I did. I was so afraid of not following instructions about sweets, but I finally had to have something I remembered being a pleasure to drink. Then I got sick. I've not gone back for one of those again. :) I wonder if that wasn't just your body's response to the sugar?

I've not had the same reaction since. Maybe I eat too much sugar and my body has readjusted what it reacts to.

If there's something you don't feel is right or it continues, check it out with your primary doctor and/or Dr. Ponce. You know your body the best.

Hope all is well.

Two times post surgery I felt really sick after drinking a chocolate Boost. It was just way too sweet for me! I thought the first time was a fluke, but when it happened again I knew. That being said, Mednar is right, if you continue to have strange issues ask your doc. I assumed something was normal for awhile and I am now regretting not getting checked out sooner. It wasn't really surgery related, but still, sooner rather than later would have been better.

Needless to say, I'll be very careful how much sugary treats I eat from now on. Ice cream was the only thing that came back up but other things I've had problems with are rice (I think it just takes too long to digest and makes me feel like I have a lump in my stomach), popcorn (I love it but I can only eat a cup or so), anything whipped (like whipped cream, marshmallows, even the Protein shakes made in a blender) - I think they just have too much air and it sits above my stomach and makes me feel bloated.

I've also experienced the first stall, sort of. I was at the same weight for a couple of weeks, then all of a sudden 4.5 pounds came off. It's strange how this happens, I've seen posts from others who've experienced this. Weird.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
