is this normal? had fill--didn't feel restriction until days later

Recommended Posts

wondering if this is typical--i had a fill last tuesday. i didn't feel anything (except chest pain) at first. by yesterday--i was having trouble eating some things i had eaten before--chinese food---got stuck, pb (first time) etc. so--i definitely now have some restriction (and am staying on liquids today).

but i didn't feel any restriction right away. why does that happen? is it normal? will i be feeling even more restriction before my next fill (3 wks away)?

This is actually very common. In my experience, my fills often didn't kick in until two or three weeks later. My theory--and it's just a theory--is that the stomach tissue sort of "thins out" in respose to the increased pressure of a tightened band. Sort like a reflex action. And then over time as the pressure remains, the tissue of the stomach relaxes and returns to its original thickness, thereby increasing the restriction by making the stoma smaller.

In any event, it's very common and the reason it's recommended to wait a good couple of weeks between fills.

Thanks--i will wait, then, for the 3 wks to go by. i was thinking of going back this week for more restriction--but that was until my little PB last night. ugh--that is UNPLEASANT! plus-missed the beginning of the Oscars!

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
