Love Love Love my plication

Recommended Posts

Dr. Ortiz did my plication on 7/5/11. I'm from Baton Rouge, LA so my husband and I took this time to vacation. Two days after surgery I was walking around Yosemite National park for a couple of hours. Then on to San Francisco on day 3 with 8 hrs. of walking. I came home on the 12th, just 7 day post surgery and found I had lost 14 lbs. WOW. Must have been all that walking.

I heard stories that I would be nauseous for a couple of weeks. I am here to tell you that I had absolutely no nausea and no pain. A little uncomfortable with gas for 7 days but that was it. The only way I can tell I've even had the surgery is by the amount of food I can eat.

I would not recommend anyone doing what I did, but I did it and there was no turning back. I was in San Francisco and I got hungry. All that walking. I was going on memory as my papers were in the hotel. I was thinking we could have mashed potatoes on day 4. I found our later it was supposed to be week 4. Anyway after I found out what I did I called and they said if I didn't have any problems then I was ok. I'm still trying to stay with the liquid thing, but every once in a while if I let myself get too hungry, then I will eat a couple of spoons of baked potato.

Anyway, I absolutely love the plication and would do it again 100 times over.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
