ok....please no one yell at me for this, but two weeks after plication surgery I went out with a friend and over two hours, had two beers. It's a liquid, I thought. Afterwards I had gas and bloating and then intermittent pains in my stomach for about two hours. After that, I was fine and had no more pain. That was Friday night. Then, yesterday afternoon and evening I've had a dull ache in my stomach area and back - behind the stomach. I'm afraid that the gas from Friday night may have caused this. It's not pain I'm having - just a dull ache - don't even need Tylenol for it, it's just uncomfortable. Could I have popped a stitch? If the gas did cause a problem, how would I know?

I doubt you'd pop a stitch from drinking a fizzy drink. The main reason that carbonated drinks are frowned upon is because they can stretch your new stomach. My surgeon said that if I vomited in the first 3 weeks that could pop stitches.

Ring your surgeon's office to check and get back on the wagon - no more fizzy drinks!! wink.gif

And, here's another question:

It's been 19 days since my surgery and I'm still feeling a dull ache in my stomach. I don't feel it most of the time, but sometimes late in the day, or if my stomach is empty, or if I bend over or lean over the washer, tub or sink, for example. Or, if I press on my belly right over the stomach area - it's sore. Not sharp pains - just tender and sore.

Is that normal? And, if so, when - if ever - does that go away?

Hi Anne, I had occasional pain in my stomach until nearly 5 weeks out. It wasn't near any incisions and I'm not really aware of anything in particular that caused it. Somebody suggested that the pain I was having was due to referred pain elsewhere. That explanation sounded a good one to me and the pain eventually disappeared. Maybe this could be the case for you.

The whole area is still probably quite tender considering you had the band removed and a hernia repair. I didn't have either of those so I had less to recover from.

As always, ring your doc to check if you're concerned.

BTW if you post the pain thing as a new thread more people will see it and you'll probably get more input.

Anywho, I hope you feel better soon. rolleyes.gif

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
