Over 1/4 of the way to my goal

Recommended Posts

Weight loss has been slow lately, but I stepped on the scale this morning and I am down 1.4 lbs from yesterday...which means that I am now over 1/4 of the way to my weight loss goal of 110 lbs lost (with a goal weight of 150)! I'm excited...I needed that benchmark to help motivate me...I felt like I was never going to get there. On top of that, I put on a dress that I bought on clearance (one of those fancy cocktail dresses...now where am I going to wear that? lol) and I can almost get it zipped. I started out from surgery in a very tight fitting size 20, and the dress is a 14. Guess I will have to Celebrate and find a place to wear it once I can actually get it zipped!

That is SO awesome! Great benchmark, as you said. I've been stuck gaining and losing the same 2-3 lbs the last 2 weeks, but I got on the Elyptical today to try to break that stall. Slow losers unite! :)

Thank you! I do that too..up and down, up and down...and then all of a sudden it will drop a lot (usually). I had to learn not to get too discouraged over this. It really freaked me out the first time the scale went up 3 lbs!

Chow,

Yeah!! You are doing great! I know it can be very frustrating when you are in a stall. Just keep plugging away...Congrats!

Grats to you! Glad you met one of your goals and it made you feel better. :)

At least one of us is losing at the moment. I've been stuck at the same weight for a little over a week after I increased my exercise. Makes no sense whatsoever. Keep at it.

I have been there...if you look back through my posts my first stall started at 2 weeks and lasted almost 2 weeks. boo! I was very discouraged and voiced a lot of frustration on here. It took me about 3 stalls to kind of figure out the pattern and stop being so upset about it. I have come to the conclusion that our bodies lose strangely after this surgery.

Not sure if your weight loss includes the presurgery diet, but 32 lbs is great!

Yeah. I only began reading posts on here around the time I had my surgery and remember your frustrations with stalls. They kinda made me wonder if I had made the right decision. But they also gave me a reality check about what to expect, and I was really glad to see you break through and start losing again. It's made my frustration with the slowdown from my first month more tolerable knowing it's probably to be expected.

Hang in there! I do appreciate all the people who provide reality checks...if I hadn't seen a few 'reality check' posts before my first stall (and many more during) I would have totally freaked out. I think it's good to see the good and the bad before we make our decision, and as we go along. It's nice to know there are others in the same boat...and it's encouraging to see others get over the obstacle. Again, I think you are doing great with your weight loss, but I know we all want it quicker!

STP Addict- I lovvvvve your chow chow photo! :) I've had 2 chow chows in my life, they're adorable and so much fun to hug.

I am scheduled for plication surgery with Dr. Ortiz in a couple months, and after a life time of weight struggles, I am aware that healthy permanent weight loss should be slow- I am fine with that. My concern is that it seems to be the expectation and result that patients ultimately stay overweight. "60-75% of excess weight", meaning I'll likely keep up to 40% of the additional weight beyond the healthy range, and thats how it goes?

I was truly hoping it was realistic to be at a truly ideal weight and no longer be describable as "chunky" or "thicker", though that may seem shallow or image focussed, I am being honest- looking good (and not just "not as fat") was a big part of what I look forward to.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
