Band to Plication Revision

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

Doesn't look like many folks have had this done. My Doc (OCC Dr. Ortiez) has done several and they seem to be a great solution for those of us who don't want to go with the Sleeve or bypass. The upside is that they can remove the band and do the plication in the same surgery - which is great. If I wanted to redo the band it would be 3 months from removal before I could get another one..

Anyone else out there considering this - or had this done?

Hi

I had my lapband placed in 2001. I had my band replaced and plication done in Feb, 2011. I do not plan to fill my band ever but it is there, if needed. My experience with Dr. Billy was very good and I was able to have most of my surgery covered by my insurance.

Hope this helps.

Jenn

Hey Jenn,

I have heard good things about Dr. Billy. Did I read you right - you kept your band and got a plication under it? Is that right? Wow - that might be a great option...I'll talk to my doc about it..

Yes that's what I've got - a band over plication.

My original band slipped so Dr Billy replaced it when he did the plication.

So far I am extremely happy with the plication.

Hello all,

I am new to the group and I have a band. I am in the process of looking up as much information as possible on revisions. I am very interested in the plication but was told its only done in Mexico. Is this true? I know for sure my doctor here in Philly does not do plications but he does sleeves.

Hey? I had a band and plication in December. I am very pleased with the results. 52 pounds gone. I think it is the best of both worlds!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
