i feel ridiculous asking this, but the band has made me uber paranoid about normal bodily functions...

i've been suffering from some allergies the past 2 days and have been sneezing up a storm. now, that's annoying on the best of days, but can that slip the band? it hurts my incisions, but i can live with that...

am i totally ridiculous or what?! :tired

I have horrid allergies through the summer when the corn is tasseling, and when we cut hay---and sneezed like crazy---never hurt me. I had a couple of months to heal, prior to my attacks---but it is nothing for me to sneeze 20 times, one right after the other!! Gives me a helluva headache, but not problems with my port or band.

Kat

ps....God Bless You!!

I was wondering about that also. I was made to cough in the hospital so it can not be all that bad for you. It just hurt real bad but that has even passed for me. I only have some burning in the port area every now and then when I have did to much.

The sneezing is the worst for me! I actually hurt near my belly button and I have no incisions near it. It radiates from my belly button to my port incision so I don't know if it's the same muscle my port is stitched to or what. I try hard not to sneeze. It's a sharp burning feeling for several seconds. I am on day six post-op. I am on a liquid diet for FOUR FREAKIN WEEKS! I can have Soup right now and my nurse suggestion egg flour soup (w/o chunks of stuff). I'm really craving food. I have my brother in town for a few days and he is eating up a storm. He's cooking pizza and lasanga and drinking soda. JERK! I smell it and start craving food! I'm not super hungry but having heavy cravings! I don't regret the surgery at all but regret not being able to have the foods I wants right now. I am carving carbs...Pad Thai and Quiznos bad!!!!!

I am certainly not a doctor but I think that sneezing won't be a problem. I had surgery in November and got a cold a couple weeks after, coughing and sneezing all the time. I think it is VERY normal to question things like this...boy I did. I thought at least once a day that I had slipped mine, but all was fine. I am sure that you will be too. God Bless!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
