Plication Surgery

Recommended Posts

I had surgery with Dr. Ortiz on May 12th. I have lost 15 pounds since I had the surgerys. I am in a stall and trying to understand why. I have never been sick or even had nausea and keep down anything I eat. I was hoping for more of a weight loss than that. Any suggestions?

You sound like you're actually doing great. How much weight are you looking to lose ? 15 pounds is nothing to shake a stick at! As long as you're gradually losing weight, that's really all that matters. If you're physically able, I'd try to increase my mobility and get some exercise going! Also, what's your normal calorie intake per day ? Are you on any special diets at the moment ? Jenn ha sa great point about this possibly being your 3 week stall. Do a quick search to read more.

Oh, yes! At about 2-3 weeks post surgery, I went into a stall for THREE weeks!! Drove me crazy, but I just kept reminding myself about the "Dreaded 3 week Stall" and, sure enough, if finally broke! I did have to tighten up my calories and carbs a little before it did, but it did break, and that was all that counted!

It's funny how different our bodies are. The more I cut calories, the more I stayed the same. I had to increase my calories and carbs for a little bit to get my stall to break. I think my body was in starvation mode. Mine started at two weeks out and lasted almost two weeks. Then I lost 6 lbs in a week. Go figure!

I did a stall about the same time...then I got disgusted and decided not to get on the scale more than once a week. My weight would fluctuate so much during the course of a day that I found myself checking the scale over and over...so now I let my looser and looser clothes tell me how I'm doing and leave the scale alone. 15 pounds is great, you are doing wonderful!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
