Hello guys! I am genkilocs and I am new to the forum here. On May 18th, I had my lapband removed and a gastric plication done. This is only week number two but I am excited to see how this surgery will be of a benefit for me. I ,lost 120 pounds with my lapband but unfortunately my band eroded my stomach and it had to be removed. Thank GOD for my doctor. I was able to be converted to the plication with out any problems. I have my follow up appointment this week coming up, i hope everything has turned out ok. I will keep you all updated on my progress. I hope you are doing well!

Welcome! I also had a lapband since 2001 and had it replaced along with the plication on Feb. 7 2011. Sounds like u did great with the band so I'm sure u'll do great with the plication! KUP

I had seriously considered the lap band before reading about the plication. I am SO glad I didn't do it! Although the lap band has certainly helped a lot of people lose weight without complications, it just seems like I'm hearing so many stories about erosion and other problems with the band. So sorry that happened to you, also, gen. I hope you have continued success with the plication!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
