One week and one day out from surgery. Down 9 lbs from surgery date. Still having lots of pangs in my stomach, doc says this as normal as the stomach is trying to uncurl itself. Some days I think things are good, other days I am questioning my decision. Overall, I think it's a good thing...mostly...

I'm 5.5 months out and I feel very much like I did before. I have some restriction, but not as much as I expected. It's back to good ol' diet and exercise for me, but I'm hoping this will prevent the usual regain. I'll have to see in 3 or 4 months time where I am.

I sure am feeling yucky and hungry today, kind of weak and tired. It's been 10 days since my surgery and I'd hoped I'd have bounced back better by now, but my family just all passed around a virus so maybe that's why. I've lost 17 lbs which I'm wondering is too fast, I was prepared to take it slow. But the hardest thing right now is being so hungry. Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm 9 days post op now. I don't feel overly hungry-not really having any problem sticking to the liquid diet, no real cravings, but I've only lost 10 lbs. 17 lbs is a lot! I feel tired a lot, but I'm sure that's because of the low calories/liquid diet. Hope you get to feeling better!

im six weeks post op and thought I have my strength back, im only down 20lbs and I must admit, im very disappointed. I just knew I would be one of these people who lose 25lbs a month. Someone told me that since I only have 70 total to lose that I am considered a "lite weight" (yes it made me laugh too) and that would be one reason I dont loose as fast as people who have over 100 to loose. I am still bothered by a lo of guilt feelings that come with the surgery. I ate and oreo cookie the other day and felt like the worst person on the planet. I dont eat much, I cant get a diet plan with food together because Im told to avoid bread and Pasta which was such a big part of my pre surgery diet. I eat a lot of fruit and cheese.. But, I just guess im a slow loser. I would love to be 30lbs down by my 2 month anniversary but, I just dont know if that is gonna be possible. I will increase my Water and try to get in more 40 minutes walks. Until then, this is no different for me than pre surgery.. constantly watching what I eat. Uggghh..

Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey!

Just a thought, could you be consuming too FEW calories? Your body may be trying to 'hold on' to the fat if it thinks it isn't getting enough calories. My doctor recommended 500-700 during the liquid phase. Until I went up to 800 a day nothing much was happening, then I started losing.

I am a bit different than others because I was banded in 2001. I did fairly well with the band but ended up gaining almost all of the weight I lost for a variety of reasons. I revised to the banded plication in Feb, 2011. I researched the sleeve but settled on the plication after speaking with 4 doctors and doing about 6 months worth of research. RNY or bypass was never an option for me because I am severely anemic. My doctors at Cedars-Sinai do not recommend the sleeve mainly due to leak issues but they will perform it. I was leaning towards the sleeve but I just could not get over the idea of discarding 70-85% of my stomach. However, I do think the sleeve is a great option for some people.

I started at 281, gained a few pounds in the hospital and came home at 283. I'm bouncing around 245-247 so I've lost about 36ish pounds in 3 months. Of course, I wish it was more but I am ecstatic with my weight loss. I do follow my doctor's guidelines and try to eat Protein first, get in 64 ounces of Water and I exercise almost every single day. I started at a size 22/24 (26 shirts) and am wearing loose fitting size 20s. Most of my size 18s fit but are still too tight to wear comfortably.

My first big goal was to reach 250 and I did that about 9 weeks after surgery. My next goal is to be at 225 and I'm hoping to reach that by June. **As a side note it took me almost 1 year to lose 50 pounds when I was first banded in 2001.**

I will include a sample meal from today to give you an idea of what I eat.

Bfast - 1/2 a GNC ready to drink Protein Shake (about 85 calories), Water

Snack - 1 low fat string cheese, Water (70 calories)

Lunch - about 1/2-3/4 of a lean cuisine (about 300-330 calories)

*We had Snacks in the teacher's lounge today and I ate 1/2 a brownie - yum! (about 100 calories)

Snack - Water and/or the other half of my protein shake (about 85 calories)

Workout - 2.5 miles on treadmill, 1 mile on elliptical

Dinner - Blended protein shake (200 calories) **I don't normally have a protein shake for dinner but I was too tired to cook anything tonight!

Snack - later tonight I will eat 1/2 a yogurt (3 oz) with 1/4 c. of Kashi Cereal and 1/4 c. of blueberries blended

This is what my food looks like during the week. My DH is also trying to lose some weight so that makes things easier for me. On the weekends I rarely deny myself. We usually go out to eat for Breakfast and I will order whatever I want but I do eat eggs or protein first. I had margaritas last weekend and try to live my life in moderation.

Please remember that I lived with the band for almost 10 years so I have a lot of practice living with WLS. My goal with plication is to live and eat how naturally thin people do and I think that has helped me adjust well to the plication.

Chow: I think you are right about the calorie thing... Must inrease

I had my surgery in July of last year. Almost 10 months out now. I've lost 60 lbs so far. 23 to go. Very slow the last 4 months. Only lost 7 lbs since Christmas. I weigh the same for a month now. I'm definitely losing a lot slower than those with other surgeries. No issues at all. I can alot more that I could the first few months. It is getting harder to be good.

At any time have you gained weight, or did the weight loss just stall at times?

I'm in a stall right now. This seems to be my pattern:

Lose about 2-3 pounds one week, then stall for about 3 weeks. Then lose 2-3 pounds again, then stall again. My body takes time to adjust to weight loss I guess....I have gained weight also but it's usually 1 or 2 pounds and it quickly drops off again.

I have stalled many times. Currently I weigh the same as I did a month ago. I keep going up and down with same 3 lbs. So very frustrating. I've only lost 7 lbs since Christmas. Remember, we're in this for the long haul. For the rest of our lives. It's not just a temprary diet. We have to learn how eat. Change all of our old eating habits.

Of course after I wrote that I was in a stall, I lost weight!!

That's awesome...except I think I caught your stall, LOL! I've been stuck at 12 lbs for almost 5 days now. It is just two weeks today since the surgery, so overall I think the loss is ok, but I didn't want to stall so quickly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
