I gave it up two months before surgery. I think we are allowed coffee at three months? I'm four months out but decided not to go back to my old habit. When I quit coffee I started sleeping through the night w/o any sleep aids. I hadn't been able to do that in 27 years. Who knew the solution was as simple as giving up coffee? :-)

Caffeine depletes nutrients that you are struggling to get into your body. It causes Water retention yet dehydrates you. Caffeine is not essential so why pollute your Buffy with it. I drank several cups of coffee a day before surgery. Since I've invested in getting my life back and beginning this journey with WLS I have given up anything and everything toxic, including caffeine.

Preop weight 389 current weight 304...that's 85 lbs lost since RNY 6/11/13

I do not pee anymore than usual, my doctor recommended arizona tea as a post op liquid, so I've been drinking it since surgery...

I took my son to mcdonalds the other day. The only drink I remember them having that was caffeine free besides coffee, was the fountain lemonade. Of course when I went in, they no longer carried it and I had to settled for lemon Water with splenda.

My doc said NO CAFFEINE EVER! Luckily for me, I have been caffeine free for four years. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
