Plastic sticking out!

Recommended Posts

This Is Not Really Too Much Of A "complication" But I Do Have A Small Piece Of Plastic Sticking Out Of One Of My Incisions - I Tihnk It May Be A Stich Except Its Clear - Kinda Like One Of Those Plastic Things For Tags On Clothing. Anyone Heard/had This? Its Really Annoying Because It Catches Onto My Clothing And It Pulls Which Then Hurts, Oddly Enough My Incision Are Perfect - Thin And I Never Had Any Brusing At All.

Sounds to me like you need to call your doc and let him know what's going on. Don't try to get rid of it yourself, you might cause yourself more problems than it's worth.

Good luck!

I had this happen. It didn't show up for about 2 weeks after my surgery. It freaked me out. It was a piece of the dissovleable stiches. (is that spelled right...) Anyway, I ended up putting a band-aid over it until it just fell off one day while showering. I would still call my Doc and make sure that's what yours is.

I had one sticking out of each end of my largest incision. I dabbed some Neosporin on them and covered them with a little bandaid. They took about a week to fall off. To me it looked like fishing line, lol!

I showered before I left the hospital---so it was the next day. Felt good too, I was covered in yellow goo!!! It remained sticky even after the surgery---finally wore itself off I guess!!!

Check with your Dr. some patients are glued, others stitched (me) and others stapled---I am sure the type of stitches, makes a difference, mine had to be removed---but we removed them here at home.

Simple question for your surgeon, or even the surgical nurse in the hospital.

Good Luck,

Kat

I snipped the part that was sticking out (but did not tug or pull on the rest of it) with sterilized cuticle scissors. I slapped some Vitamin E and a bandaid on it and it eventually disappeared.

It is a stitch - I cut mine off.

To the person who needs a shower (smile), I was told to take one daily, immediately after surgery, just don't scrub the bandaids and steri-strips. No tub baths for a week.

I too had a stitch sticking out of two of my incisions. My nurse told me to use nail clippers to snip them off and I did without a problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
