OCT. 1, 2013 - The First Day of the Rest of My Life

Recommended Posts

OK so I am allowed plain cream Soups, so I tried Campbell's cheese Soup tonight. My stomach hates it. I feel like my gut is going to burst open.

By the way, something I have found helps me. I kept my incentive spirameter from the hospital and whenever I get really painful stomach gas pains I use it to make me breathe deeply until the pain subsides.

Awake at 4am. Second day in a row. Just happens to be the same time the pills wear off. I don't really need them during the day, but they are the only way I can sleep. Just took some more and I guess I will get to go back to sleep when they kick in.

It is ridiculous to me that the only thing that hurts is inside. The left side (the same as everyone else) where the most internal trauma was. The external staple sites don't hurt at all, but that ache inside is murder. How long has that taken to go away for other people?

I am 18-days post-op and about the 11th day that pain became tolerable without medication. I am struggling with a back-ache still from surgery. Apparently, I was hyper-extended on the operating table and because your sedated you can't reposition yourself. So, I have had a back-ache for 5-days. UGH. I know it gets better. I still don't understand why my back would start hurting so many days after my surgery, but the doctor told me that is what it is. Go figure!!!

Just got some Isopure Zero carb Protein drink (coconut flavored). The taste is a little weird, but A LOT easier to drink than a Protein Shake.< /p>

So I am feeling a little depressed now. I undertook this procedure because I have pretty bad type 2 diabetes and I had heard that for many people the surgery basically instantly fixes their diabetes. My results have not been that good, and while i am currently (5 days post) taking much less medicine, my numbers are still a little high (130-140) on average. I had been telling myself that it must just take a week or so, but I just had a long conversation with another poster on this board who was on the exact same medication as me and who was "cured" immediately after surgery, no meds and numbers in the 90s.

I know I am just being reactionary and it could still work, and that long term weight loss will also help, but I gotta admit I am pretty f'ing down right this second. While I know that it's not, right now my gut (ha ha) reaction is that this was a waste.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
