I need to know how fresh fruit fits into our new lifestyle. For example, I would like to add a banana to my vanilla powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein shake.

Can I do that? I don't understand how natural sugars from fruit are tolerated and will they cause dumping?

Thank you for any information. I am 16-days post op.

Actually, I have added a half of a banana to my shakes (usually I do strawberry). I did have a very mild dump today, but don't think it was caused by the banana as last week didn't have that issue with the banana. I think I drank it too fast. I downed a good 12 oz within 15 minutes way too fast which I think caused this episode.

If your WLS binder says fresh fruit is safe than it's ok to add it. Depends on what stage you are in and what your Nut. and surgeon recommended.

Personally, I doubt it would hurt you in any way, especially in a shake.

I eat a lot of fresh and frozen fruits. I have not had any problems. It feels me up and gives me some "sweetness" I sometimes crave. Start slow everyone is different.

My nut says not to blend any fruit into your Protein Shakes. She said that you need to eat them separately, because its too many calories at once. I don't think its a bad idea to do every once in a while, but not too often.

If it's okay with your doc then go for it. Watch bananas though. Pretty high sugar content, I dump off them if I'm not careful.

I added them and PB2. I don't dump though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
