My 3rd Week After Gastric Bypass Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

Its my 3rd week after my operation & I have to say it's been really tough for me. I've been feeling very tired a lot & my mood & moral has been extremely low.

As for food I've not really been that bothered sometimes & I've had to force myself to eat as I've had no appetite.

I managed to eat a very child size sandwich this evening with no crusts as I made sure it had Protein in it. I know I'm not supposed to eat like that yet; but I'm really struggling to get Protein & other things I need in to my diet.

Partly because I have no energy & I'm not interested in cooking atm; even tho I used to love to cook, I'm generally so down in myself & due to personal / relationship & family issues, I'm struggling to motivate myself to do anything.

Does this pass as even tho I love healthy food; I've lost all interest in food & life :'(

I'm so sorry. Where are your Protein Shakes? You must have more Protein so you can sustain your body. I think you would feel better too, I am just guessing because my surgery isn't till Nov. 8th, but I think that's the general rule. I pretty sure you need about 90 g of protein a day. Good luck to you and please cheer up. Your new life has begun and I know you are going to do so good.

I'm on my third week and struggling Protein wise as well. If you're feeling down maybe you should talk to a therapist. And as always consult your surgeon/nutrition about your Protein intake!

I am just past 3 months out. My clinic's diet plan is one of the most restrictive I have seen on this site. I will tell the key to feeling well is Protein, Water and Vitamins. Make sure that you are getting all of your Vitamins EVERY day. Do your best to get at least 60 ounces Water a day and 50 grams of Protein. You will work up to more. The water and protein is a GOAL. Don't beat yourself up if you don't make it every day. REMEMBER TO EAT PROTEIN FIRST! The sandwich might have gone down OK, but you need that space in your pouch for protein. Even now I only have one tablespoon of fruit, veggie, or starch with any meal. At three weeks 1 ounce of lunch meat was a meal. I still have not had more than a small bite of bread.< /p>

You obviously have worked hard to have the surgery, and made it through. Call your clinic for help if you need it. You are just beginning this journey. I can tell you after three months that I have not felt as well as I do today in years!!

Today is my third week post-op. I'm still struggling trying to get 64 ozs of Fluid and a minimum of 60 gms of Protein which I actually mix with my drinks. For me that is first priority and food is second. The doctor was okay with that. I do try to eat, a couple of tablespoons of tuna, cottage cheese, yogurt, egg, soft boiled or poached, refried Beans with low fat cheese melted and mixed with the beans, sf pudding, sf Jello, sf popsicles, and thinking of trying sf fudgesicles. I am allowed some other things at this point but just haven't built myself up to trying them. Also I get my Vitamins in. My energy level is doing okay, mental status is good, I'm back to working starting last week. But will say, each day gets better regarding my stamia. I can also tell when I'm not getting enough protein as feel it in the muscles. Classic sign for me is to raise my arms up and I can feel them get tired almost immediately. I'm a happy camper that I've had this surgery. But need to win the lottery as I need new clothes, because everything is falling off and I don't want to invest because at the rate I'm losing I'll be buying new clothes every couple of weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
