I hope my surgeon didn't make a mistake

Recommended Posts

I had complications after my surgery and require some testing tomorrow. I happened to look at the script for the ct scan, and on it says I had the sleeve done!! I clearly stated bypass. I went in thinking I had the bypass. Now I'm wondering what they did. The day of surgery, my doctor said sleeve and I said no I am a bypass patient. He said oh I see that now. I still have my other part of my stomach. I am really hoping this is an error on the script.

That's so scary. You have a hell of a lawsuit on your hands if he did. But hopefully whomever put printed the CT just wrote the wrong procedure. Definitely go back and find out!

I'm really starting to wonder if maybe that is why I can eat more.

It would make sense but I can't even fathom how a mistake like that happened!

Request your medical records if there's any question

But she is stating the scan is showing the remaining part of the stomach, if that is the case, then she had to have had bypass. They couldn't leave a non-functioning stomach that is not being fed with blood as it would rot then she would be in a world of hurt. This is just my thoughts.

Probably an error with the script.

You need to request you operative report that will state exactly what you had done

Good idea.although they make for gruesome reading.

They said they made a mistake on the order, but I never got to see the CT.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
