Post-op hiccups normal?

Recommended Posts

I was banded Friday 2/23, I have had the hiccups many times today (they hurt) is this normal? Also I have pain at my collarbone area of all places, it is the worst when I wake up..it hurts when I breathe in the most. Anybody else have something similar? I've been using the breathing spiriometry bottle several times a day, it helps a little.

My doc only required a 48 hr liquid diet followed by 4 weeks of mushies. I've had no problems eating 2/3 of a serving of cream of wheat..it seems like a lot to me I expected to be full after a few bites. I haven't felt full yet I just stop eating when I don't feel the hunger anymore.

Need to update my ticker but too tired right now!

I hiccup all the time. They hurt at first, but not anymore. I've always been prone to them, though. Usually just one or two at a time. I find now, though, they're usually followed by a weird burp that comes from way down in my belly. No disguising it, or keeping it quiet! I just excuse myself whenever it happens. :)

Hopeful,

After surgery I would get the hiccups also, and they would hurt like he... uh crazy. Now that I am 3 weeks post-op tomorrow the hiccups don't hurt any more. I think it hurts so much because the diaphram sets above the stomach, so until you have healed a little more you will have some pain.

Just know that it will go away.

Good luck to you!!

Stacy

:)

It's still seems so strange to me that it helps to know that others have had the same experiences, even for the most basic things. But it does help, so thank you;):)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
