OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Recommended Posts

Wow, I'm amazed at how much some of you have lost post-op! Great job, everyone!

I've had to clean my hairbrush daily. Luckily, I've got a lot of hair (albeit fine hair), so it isn't noticeable, yet.

I've finally broken through a long stall and started losing again. I added more exercise which I think helps. I have more energy finally, too. This winter in Wisconsin hasn't helped the energy one bit. The weather makes me want to sit by the fireplace most of the time.

I had a teaching gig yesterday, so I decided to wear makeup and take some selfies. Here's a side-by-side. Left is July 2013, right is yesterday:

Wow u look amazing!!! Keep up the great work and glad u added exercise!! That does help! My boyfriend and I joined a gym and have been going at least 5 nights a week. Been working my butt off!! Literally HA! I guess I have lost a lot but for as hard as I've been working I guess it just seems like it should be more. I've even started running!! Using the C25K app on my phone. Sorry your weight loss is slower. What does your surgeon say about that?? Hey it's better than nothing!!!! Keep on truckin cuz u look amazing!!!! :)

Your face is really thin and you look good.

I han't had much Hair loss. I don't know if my time is coming or if the high percentage of Biotin in the Bariatric Vitamins I took for the first 3 months after surgery helped.

I have been losing my hair for the last month. surgery 10/8. I cut it off so its not as bad. Part of it was my own fault as I always kept my long hair in tight pony tails. I have some days where I feel exhausted.. but not as much as I thought I would. I always have energy now. I don't get to exercise as much as I should because of my work schedule and other things I have going on. SW:267 CW:177 GW:150 RNY:10/8/2013

I envy you that you are so close to your goal. I've lost the same amount since October 1, 2013, but sadly I have about 90 more to lose to reach 160. Good job, you.

Thanks, Angie! I haven't seen the surgeon since 2nd day post-op, but the physician's assistant hasn't been alarmed. Slow and steady wins the race (or at least that's what I tell myself). I've lost 72 lbs since the start of my journey, 42 post- op. I'm content with my pace for the most part. It's way more than I could do on my own! Just wowed by those who have lost more in the same or less amount of time. BTW, I thought that perhaps losing at a slower rate would minimize loose skin issues, but that doesn't seem to be the case (at least with me). :-(

Thank you! I've been taking Biotin supplements since pre-op. It doesn't seem to help with Hair loss for me, but my hair and nails have been growing faster and according to my hairdresser, my hair is easier to style since I've taken biotin.

Hello October post/op's!! Congrats to everyone!! Keep up the great job!!

I'm a November WLS. Seeking advise on what worked for you got fatigue and hair loss.

My progress:

WLS 11/14/13

SW 266

CW 233

GW 165

I'm averaging 2 lbs per week, no exercise due to knee injury/pain. Doctor is happy with my progress.

Issues I've been experiencing feeling tired, fatigue and exhausted. I eat all my water/ meals/proteins/vitamins and average 600 to 900 calories daily, try to eat more to get energy levels up, helps some days.

I'm 3 months as of Friday 2/14/14 and I've stated losing globs of hair especially after I Shampoo. So I'm washing every other day. I was expecting this may happen, but so emotionally distressing and nerve wrecking to see it come out so much so quickly. I'm totally freaked out. Praying it slows down soon.

Anyone else feeling exhausted and losing your hair??

I've never had the low energy some have talked about. I think the 16 oz Protein smoothie (40 grams of protein)I have for Breakfast each day helps with that. I also found I lose more weight when I am in the 800 - 900 calorie per day range. I think when I ate 600 calories at 3 months it stalled my weight loss because my body thought I was starving it. Everyone is different though. I think that 3- 4 months after surgery is a hard time period head-wise. The natural weight loss process can start to slow because we are battling emotional eating bad habits that got us in trouble before surgery. At least, that's where I am.

I'm revisiting some of the books that helped me pre-surgery. Maybe one of them will halp you:

--"The Emotional First Aid Kit: A practical guilde to life after bariatric surgery" 2nd Edition, by Cynthia Alexander

--"Crave: Why you binge eat and how to stop," Cynthia M. Bulik, Phd

--"The Sucess Habits of WEgith Loss Surgery Patients," 3rd Edition, by Colleen Cook

Boy. Lots of typos. "WEgith" = "Weight" and "guilde" = "guide"

I am amazed at how fast some of you are losing! I have been in so many stalls for the past three months that I've only lost 23 lbs since November. It does get discouraging, but I know I have to keep on plugging. My hair has gotten really thin and I take Biotin everyday. One good thing, I do have a lot more energy. I work out at the gym at least 3 days a week, try to get in more, but it is difficult since it is 20 miles away. Congrats on everyone's weight loss!

I am finally 199 (again). I haven't seen that number since a year after I had the lapband surgery. Hopefully I will never see that number again nor anything over 200 lbs now that I've had gastric bypass. The lowest I got with the band was 189. My weight loss has been slow but steady. I have 39 more pounds to my goal weight. I hope everyone else is doing well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
