Whey protein shots

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies. I have a quick question. Has anyone tried those whey Protein Shots? They look like those 5 hour energy shots but a longer tube. It says it has 42g of Protein and I'm wondering if I could just drink that to make sure I get all my protein in then drinking all the shakes? I'm so confused about my liquid pre op diet..I've got Jello, broth and shakes but idk if that is all im limited too for the next 2 weeks. Also, how is the time determined. Some only have to do 1 week or 3 day liquid before surgery and not the 2 week?

Be careful with the shots. I've been told that they're not the right kind of Protein. We need whey isolate protein and I believe the shots are whey concentrate. So just make sure they're most effective for you! Let me know how they work out!!

I just saw those the other day at Walmart. I was wondering the same thing. BTW, I have to do a pre op diet for 2x and mine is just like yours although I think I can also have sugar free ice pops. I'm dreading it. My surgery date is 11/8/13. When is yours?

My surgery date is 10/21/13. Super nervous and excited. I can have sf ice pops as well. I went down the healthy living/protein shake isle at heb (grocery store in texas) and I wanted to cry. Idk. Nothing looked appealing and I think it really hit me that I wouldn't be able to eat. .. At least not right off the bat and have really no idea what all these shakes and Vitamins etc even did. I think it's my nerves lol.

The ONLY Protein shot out there that I would recommend is Yes Whey. Every other Protein shot that I have seen is made with collagen protein. Protein is rated according to digestibility with a maximum score of 1.00. Collagen protein has a digestibility score of 0.08. All the protein in the world is useless if your body cannot digest it.

Yes Whey is 100% whey isolate which has a digestibility score of 1.00. I only very recently discovered this protein shot after seeing a post by another member. You can see the nutrition label at http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-435130-protica-nutritional-research-yes-whey-rtd-liquid-protein-shot-orange-29-oz . Check the nutrition label on any protein "shot" or "bullet" that you are considering. If the primary ingredient is listed as collagen (or any derivative of it like "collagenic"), it's pretty much useless regardless of how many grams of protein it may have.

One word of caution - I personally have not tried Yes Whey but a couple of forum members have and it is not considered tasty, to say the least. Whey isolate is made by a high-tech nano filtering process that removes virtually all of the lactose and fat. Good for those who are lactose intolerant but at a hefty cost in terms of taste. The up side is that you can get a lot of highly digestible protein (25g) for a very small (2.9 oz) volume.

Very good info to know. I have been drinking Pure Protein from Walmart and I actually really love it. Stacy have you started trying different kinds yet? I am very nervous but super excited also. I pretty sure this is all normal.

You sound really confused. Have you talked with your surgeon and nut. They should have give you thorough instructions for all of these questions and concerns prior to surgery. Every doc is different so even though it's helpful to hear from others always stick with what the doctor ordered.

I believe 'snot bullet' was the term we agreed on back then.....the good news is that you can gag it down in 2 swallows. The bad news is that it's chunky.....definite ewww factor!

I was told by the nut to get whey isolate Protein. She said It has to have 20g of protein per 100 calories. I figured the shots were whey protein since it is called New Whey. It's all new to me. As far as trying new Proteins I haven't as much as I should. I'm waiting to free up some cash to order the Unjury brand. Seems that's the most recommended on the boards. I'm scared , nervous, and honestly have no idea how to psyche myself out for two weeks lol. I know I can do it.

I have 5 of them sitting unopened... And they will stay that way. I can't imagine drinking something that's chunky! I would probably vomit and defeat the purpose.

Hey friendlies. Be careful with any of these Protein Shots whey or the generic form. My nutritionist had me try them post op. to get in my daily Protein. I used thrm daily for 3 weeks and ended up with a diagnosis of diverticulitis. If you do take these id highly suggest doubling up on your fiber!!

Stacey, Money is an issue for me too. So is this stupid underline that I can't seem to get rid of. I bought "Super Advanced Whey Protein" at KMart. The strawberry is delish!!! I think it was like 19.00. I could but won't, drink it all day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
