Fat and Sugar Limit?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and as I'm incorporating more food in my diet I'm having trouble deciding what I should and shouldn't try. I know low sugar and low fat are key but I wasn't sure what amount of grams is too high. Some yogurts have like 15g of sugar but I'm not sure if that's ok? Any thoughts would be helpful! Thank you!

15 grams of sugar is a lot. Not all yogurts are created equal. You have search for low sugar, low cal, non or low fat. My nut gave me a list of the four yogurts that are good and meet our needs.

I try to stay under 10g of sugar MAX at any time, the less the better. The yoplait 100 calorie Greek yogurt is my favorite yogurt. It only has 7g sugar and 13g Protein I believe? But I can only eat half at a time anyway lol.

Dannon Light & Fit greek yogurt Blends are amazing!! I love the banana cream. It has 80 calories, 7 grams of sugar and 12 grams of Protein. It comes in a 5.3 ounce container. They have banana cream, key lime, strawberry banana, and a vanilla. There may be more but I haven't noticed them. I've only tried the strawberry banana and the banana cream (my fave so far.) I've found them at Walmart and they are 1 each. A little higher than some but good.

My docs rule is that if a serving has more than 6g of sugar...sugar cannot be one of the first three ingredients.

Coconut vanilla is my favorite!!!! Also the regular (non-blends) are the same nutritional value. I like the pineapple and strawberry isn't bad either.

My nutritionist said to try to stay under 5 or 6. She aslo gave me a list. The one I remember,

Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt. If it isnt sweet enough you can add a sweetner.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
