My doctor said anything bigger than an m&m I should cut in half. Anything in a gel coating should go down just fine. I cut the potassium in half, pharmacy said I will not get the full benefit of it because it is time released but I am okay with that. Most of my Vitamins are chewable from baractic advantage. Are you able to email your doctor or the nut ironist? just recon firm.

if you're continue to take your meds crushed, add them to applesauce. It will mask the bitter taste.

I have been taking pills from day one, surgeon said to not take time release pill though because you won't get the full effect.

I had to break open my capsule and add it to Water the first two weeks. Then could take them whole. The Omeprazol are small so that's tolerable. But the actigal are big and they tend to be very uncomfortable going down! Thinking I might go back to breaking them apart and taking them! But definatley should be doing what the doctor orders!

I had a horrible experience with pills... Three days after my surg a pill was not dissolving in my new stomach and was blocking everything from going down. I could not tolerate any food or liquid... I would vomit up foam all the time. Finally my doctor decided to do an endoscopy thinking it was stenosis to find the pill stuck. I had to try crushing or breaking pills in half, but that still was scary. I decided to change all my medications to liquid form. It doesn't taste the greatest but I know that it's better than taking a pill that might get stuck.

We are all different. Some have no problem digesting pills while others can't tolerate them.

I prefer liquid form over pill. Though, I don't have much problems with pills, you never know what one pill one sudden day could do. I ain't that confident.

If that medication can be switched to liquid version, you better believe it, I will not refuse it. In fact, I make sure to always ask my surgeon/RN or the RX before they fill/refill my prescription.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
